Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE
Ave Maria University is seeking a dependable, hands-on Fleet Mechanic to join our Operations team. This position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on a diverse fleet of landscape equipment, golf carts, utility vehicles, aerial lifts, and other small motorized assets. The Fleet Mechanic will also support parts inventory management, vendor coordination, and light welding or fabrication work as needed. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career mechanic to grow within a mission-driven university environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on landscape equipment, golf carts, lifts, utility vehicles, and other fleet assets in accordance with manufacturer specifications and university standards. Diagnose and complete minor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs to maintain fleet readiness and minimize downtime. Conduct routine fleet inspections and document findings; maintain accurate service records within the university s computerized maintenance management system (Asset Essentials). Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for all fleet assets, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. Manage parts inventory levels, place orders, and coordinate with vendors to ensure timely availability of parts and supplies. Perform light welding, fabrication, and modification work to support equipment repairs and minor operational projects. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment in accordance with OSHA standards and university policies. Communicate equipment status, repair timelines, and any safety concerns to the Fleet Supervisor in a timely manner. Support other Operations team functions as needed, including occasional assistance with Facilities and Grounds projects.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE
One to two (1-2) years of hands-on experience in equipment maintenance, small engine repair, or a related mechanical trade.
CERTIFICATION
Valid Florida driver s license with a clean driving record.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Minimum Qualifications Basic knowledge of gasoline and small diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and drivetrain components. Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, parts diagrams, and service bulletins. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in outdoor Florida conditions, including heat and humidity. Preferred Qualifications Experience servicing golf carts (gas and electric), zero-turn mowers, string trimmers, blowers, and similar landscape equipment. Small engine certification or manufacturer-specific training (e.g., Stihl, Toro, Club Car, E-Z-GO). Diesel engine repair experience (light

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Work is performed both indoors (shop environment) and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The role involves regular exposure to noise, fumes, oils, chemicals, and moving mechanical parts. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and is required at all times.
