Job Description Help for Job Description. Opens a new window. Automotive Technician New, air-conditioned, Automotive Fleet Maintenance building located in Cocoa Tools provided. All workstations are equipped with Snap-On tools.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires one year of formal training or college education specializing in Automotive Repair or a closely related field. Requires one year of related work experience. Will accept one additional year of work experience in lieu of one year of college/formal training. Requires Valid Florida Class E Driver's License (must be maintained for duration of employment). Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.
CERTIFICATION INCENTIVES
Automotive Technicians with the following certifications from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) are eligible to receive incentive pay of: Certified Mechanic A $50.00 bi-weekly (requires 3 of the following ASE certifications in no particular order: A1 Engine Repair, A2 Automatic Transmission, A4 Suspension and Steering, A5 Brakes, A6 Electrical, A7 Air Conditioning). Certified Mechanic B $50.00 bi-weekly (requires 3 of the following: A1 Engine Repair, A2 Automatic Transmission, A4 Suspension and Steering, A5 Brakes, A6 Electrical, A7 Air Conditioning). Advanced Certified Mechanic $100 bi-weekly (requires the following certifications: A3 Manual Drive Train and Axles, A8 Engine Performance, and L1 Advanced Engine Performance Specialist) Emergency Law Enforcement Vehicle Installation Technician Certification $50.00 bi-weekly Each certification must be maintained in order to qualify for the associated incentive.

Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Establishes the requirements of the job based on the corresponding work order. Troubleshoots vehicles with mechanical problems to locate cause of the malfunction. Performs repairs and/or preventive maintenance on vehicle as required. Performs road test on vehicle after repairs to ensure proper and safe operation of same; completes work order. Schedules repair and maintenance work, notifies customers of completion of work, and orders vehicle parts. Picks-up and delivers vehicles to be serviced. Outfits new vehicles and strips old vehicles as required. Rebuilds motors, transmissions and brakes. Installs emergency equipment in Sheriff's fleet vehicles including; emergency lighting, police radios, antennas, electric weapons storage, prisoner partitions, and related equipment. Installs wiring, cables, video and computer equipment in Sheriff's fleet vehicles. Installs and replaces graphic decals on vehicles. Repairs and maintains emergency equipment. Maintains work area and equipment in compliance with Department policies and procedures. Attendance is an essential function of this job. Completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference/employment/neighborhood checks. Submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.
