About the Role Auto-Lab of Tallahassee is seeking a Shop Lead Diagnostic Technician / Foreman to lead shop floor operations and set the standard for diagnostic accuracy, production, and quality control. We operate a structured, diagnostics-first facility not a parts-swapping shop. This role bridges top-tier technical diagnostics with hands-on shop leadership: you will handle complex drivability and electrical issues while guiding workflow, mentoring technicians, and ensuring every vehicle leaves repaired correctly the first time. Compensation $65,000
  • $70,000 Guaranteed Base Salary ($1,250
  • $1,346 / week) + Shop Performance & Quality Incentives ($75,000
  • $85,000+ Total Earning Potential)
Key Responsibilities Advanced Diagnostics & Repair:
Accurately diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, network communication, and drivability issues using advanced scan tools, scopes, and module programming equipment.
Shop Leadership & Mentorship:
Guide, mentor, and support general technicians with troubleshooting, repair procedures, and shop throughput.
Workflow & Quality Control:
Oversee daily repair flow, conduct final quality control inspections, and verify repairs to minimize comebacks. Digital Vehicle Inspections (DVI): Perform and enforce comprehensive digital inspections on every vehicle to maintain transparency and support service advisors with clear documentation.
Shop Standards:
Maintain diagnostic equipment, special tools, and bay safety to uphold professional shop operations.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
5+ years of hands-on automotive diagnostic and mechanical repair experience in a professional shop environment.
Certifications:
Active ASE Master Automobile Technician Certification (A1-A8) required. ASE L1 (Advanced Engine Performance Specialist) certification is strongly preferred.
Technical Expertise:
Proven proficiency in electrical system troubleshooting, CAN-bus networks, drivability diagnostics, and computerized vehicle systems.
Leadership Ability:
Demonstrated ability to manage workflow, assist team members with complex repairs, and build an accountable, team-oriented shop culture.
General Requirements:
Must hold a valid US Drivers License and be insurable on the shop insurance policy. Ability to lift more than 50 lbs unassisted and perform standard shop physical duties.
