Or do you have a teaching background and are looking to teach part-time in an exciting new CTE program? Job Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a part-time teacher for the AutoSTART Pre-Apprenticeship program. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to inspire and educate youth about careers in the automotive industry. As an Automotive Teacher, you will lead a class of high school juniors and seniors from across the Honolulu school district who will come together as a pre-apprenticeship cohort. You will be supported with custom curriculum and a support team from Honolulu Community College's Automotive Program and industry professionals. We will also provide personalized paid onboarding in July 2026 and support throughout the school year.
Note:
This is an introductory automotive course. Technical knowledge about automotive technology is helpful and desired, but not required. Responsibilities Facilitate daily cohort sessions (hands-on, project-based learning; structured routines) Create a safe, positive learning environment and reinforce organization, time management and daily safety expectations Deliver foundational automotive modules using provided curriculum (and help students connect learning to real careers) Integrate professional skills training (attendance, communication, teamwork, workplace expectations) Coordinate guest speakers, site visits, and work-based learning activities with program staff Track basic participation, skill sign-offs/checklists, and document student progress Communicate with program staff regarding student support needs, attendance patterns, and logisticsOptional:
support transportation coordination/pickups (if assigned) Minimum Qualifications Experience working with high school-aged youth in a structured setting (classroom, training, coaching, mentoring, etc.) Strong facilitation skills: calm presence, clear expectations, consistent follow-through Organized, highly reliable and punctual; able to maintain daily routines Good communication skills with diverse audiences including youth, parents, academic staff, and industry professionals Safety-minded; able to enforce safety rules without hesitation Basic proficiency with Google Suite products including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Meet, and Google Drive Demonstrated ability to learn and become competent at using new technology software Comfortable learning and delivering a structured curriculum Preferred Qualifications Teaching experience (licensed teacher, substitute, trainer, tutor, etc.) Automotive industry experience (technician, service, fleet, shop operations, etc.) Experience with hands-on technical instruction or CTE environments Additional Requirements Ability to pass background check and any school/DOE requirements Valid driver's license and clean driving record Compensation Dependent upon experience $26.39/hour (no bachelor's degree) - $42.16/hour (Bachelor's degree and completion of a state-approved teacher education program) Sounds interesting?
