Perform mechanical repairs on all types of gasoline and diesel driven automotive equipment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
∙Diagnose motor knocks, noises, or mechanical failures. ∙Remove, repair, overhaul, and install gasoline or diesel engines. ∙Inspect, adjust and repair defective mechanical units. ∙Repair and overhaul major units including brake systems, transmissions, differentials and front and rear axles. ∙Overhaul steering mechanisms and drive shafts. ∙Determine and orders needed repair parts. ∙Road tests repaired equipment. ∙Interpret and works from rough sketches or blue prints, as well as from oral and written instruction. ∙Ensure that repaired equipment is tested before being returned to the road or for public use. ∙May make minor body and fender and other similar repairs to automotive equipment, including heavy-duty equipment. ∙May perform oxyacetylene or electric welding in connection what repair work. ∙Operate motorized equipment to include, but not limited to: forklift. ∙Maintain a high level of customer service, ensuring the agency's needs are met. ∙Understand, follow and support all safety policies and programs. ∙Available to work varied shifts which may include, nights, weekends and holidays. ∙Regular attendance.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. ∙Ability to locate and adjust technical defects in gasoline and diesel driven automotive equipment. ∙General knowledge of the maintenance and repair of equipment such as rotary and centrifugal pumps, air compressors, air powered equipment. ∙Ability to make repairs using modern tools, equipment and procedures. ∙Working knowledge of theory and principle of internal combustion engine. ∙Working knowledge of electricity as applied to the electrical systems of automotive equipment; air conditioning systems; the use of hydraulic oil presses, lathes, gauges, gear or bearing pullers, sanding machines and spray guns. ∙Working knowledge of testing equipment and other mechanical implements used in the trade. ∙Working knowledge of OSHA standards, general health and safety precautions, occupational hazards and precautionary measures applicable to the trade. ∙Excellent interpersonal skills which include, written, verbal and listening. ∙Organized, detail and tasks oriented. ∙No moving traffic violations in the past (3) three years. ∙Current Department of Transportation (DOT) physical. ∙Ability to provide a negative drug test result. EDUCATION and/orEXPERIENCE
∙A.S.E. Certified and/or State of Hawaii Mechanics License and one (1) year related experience and/or training. Preference given certifications that include gasoline & diesel engine, drive train, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, heating/vent/air conditioning, and preventative maintenance.LANGUAGE SKILLS
∙Ability to read and interpret documents such as OSHA standards, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. ∙Ability to interpret and work from rough sketches or blue prints as well as from oral and written. ∙Ability to read and write routine reports. ∙Ability to communicate effectively with employees of the organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
∙Ability to add and subtract using whole numbers.REASONING ABILITY
∙Identifies problems, collects data, establishes facts, and make recommendations. ∙Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. ∙Ability to communicate calmly to employees in stressful situations. ∙Ability to handle multiple projects at a given time. ∙Ability to perform well under pressure.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
∙A.S.E. Certification ∙HTA Forklift Training Program certification. ∙CDL preferred.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
