Primary Purpose:
Responsible for duties for the Automotive Technology program including but not limited to providing classroom and laboratory instruction in the Automotive Technology program, preparing students for industry certifications, postsecondary education, and careers in the automotive industry through hands-on learning experiences aligned with industry standards.
Qualifications/Skills:
Education/Certification:
Valid teaching certification in CTE or the ability to obtain certification. ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification or other relevant industry certifications preferred. Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remain qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong understanding of automotive systems, diagnostic tools, repair procedures, and industry safety standards. Knowledge of current automotive technologies and emerging industry trends. Strong classroom management, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and industry partners. Ability to maintain a safe and productive laboratory environment.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in automotive technology and repair. Experience working with secondary or post-secondary students is preferred. Experience supporting industry certification preparation preferred.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction and Curriculum Provide classroom and laboratory instruction in Automotive Technology courses. Implement district-approved curriculum aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and industry standards. Develop engaging lessons, laboratory activities, assessments, and projects that promote student learning and skill development. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies and administrative regulations. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook in the classroom and at work sites. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Work cooperatively with special education teacher to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods according to district requirements. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s). Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Laboratory Management and Safety Maintain a safe, clean, and organized automotive laboratory environment. Ensure compliance with district, state, and industry safety regulations. Monitor and maintain automotive equipment, tools, and instructional resources. Report equipment repair and replacement needs as necessary. Student Development Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications and employment opportunities. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assist students in developing employability skills, professionalism, and workplace readiness. Provide career guidance related to automotive pathways, postsecondary opportunities, and workforce options. Support student participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) such as SkillsUSA. Work-Based Learning and Industry Partnerships Collaborate with local business and industry partners to support student learning experiences. Assist in coordinating internships, job shadowing opportunities, industry tours, and guest speakers. Promote meaningful work-based learning experiences aligned with program goals. Recruitment and Program Promotion Support recruitment efforts for the Automotive Technology program. Participate in career fairs, open houses, middle school outreach activities, and CTE showcase events. Collaborate with counselors and administrators to promote student enrollment and program awareness.
Communication:
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Collaborate with principals, teachers, higher education and industry advisors. Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development activities to maintain industry and instructional expertise. Attend required district and campus meetings. Collaborate with CTE staff, counselors, and administrators to support student success. Perform other duties as assigned.

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing (ability to lift up to 50lbs) Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desk, and other classroom equipment.
