Job Description
Are you an experienced fleet technician who takes pride in keeping essential vehicles and equipment safe, reliable, and ready for service? Do you have the technical expertise and leadership skills to coordinate a busy fleet shop and respond when the unexpected happens? This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the efficient maintenance and repair of the City's diverse fleets from automobiles and public works equipment to police and fire vehicles and specialized equipment. Under general supervision of the Division Manager, keep critical City operations moving by: Performing skilled maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment. Coordinating daily activities and workflow on the fleet shop floor. Communicating with department staff liaisons to understand needs and prioritize repairs. Scheduling and assigning repair and maintenance work to Fleet Technicians. Directing technicians to emergency calls and coordinating timely responses when needed. Ensure vehicles and equipment are repaired efficiently and returned to service quickly. Performing related administrative duties, record keeping, and coordination activities. Providing technical guidance and instruction to fleet technicians. Serving as acting division manager when assigned and when operational needs require. A dependable, technically skilled professional who can combine strong mechanical expertise with leadership, organization, and excellent communication.
