Full Job Description Position Summary:
Vulcan Garage, a fleet focused shop with a majority of customers who operate Sprinter (Ford, RAM, Mercedes) vans and electric vehicles including Rivian and Bright Drop, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Service Technician to join our team. This role is critical to delivering high-quality, efficient vehicle repairs and maintenance services for our fleet and retail clients. You will be responsible for diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance, ensuring safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction. At Vulcan Garage we are a highly entrepreneurial business focused on Business to Business services in Fleet and Fleet operations. We are seeking a Service Technician that has both the technical experience with gas vehicles but who also wants to grow and transition to an expert in Electric Vehicles. We will provide training and support to develop you and our team to be the experts in sprinter van and Electric vans for fleets in the Birmingham Metro. The candidate will help build our team knowledge as we expand our services and capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues on gasoline, diesel, and electric vehicles Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (oil changes, brakes, fluids, tires, belts, filters, etc.) Conduct comprehensive vehicle inspections and safety checks Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot systems including engine, transmission, suspension, HVAC, and electrical Accurately document all work completed, parts used, and recommendations in the work order management system Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA and shop safety standards Communicate effectively with service advisors and other team members regarding status, estimates, and timelines Mentor junior technicians when applicable; contribute to team knowledge sharing Adhere to company productivity and quality standards to minimize comebacks and ensure customer trust
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of hands-on experience in an automotive repair facility or fleet service environment ASE Certification(s) preferred (A1-A8); willingness to complete further certifications if not yet obtained Strong understanding of OBD-II diagnostics and scan tool usage Proficiency in reading technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics Valid driver's license with clean driving record Own a professional set of tools appropriate for the position High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or OEM training preferred
Preferred Attributes:
Experience working on commercial fleet vehicles (e.g., Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter, Rivian, etc.) Familiarity with fleet management platforms (e.g., Fleetio, AutoLeap, etc.) Strong communication and interpersonal skills Reliability, initiative, and a commitment to high standards of workmanship
