About Gold One Auto Gold One Auto is a growing used car dealership and full-service automotive repair shop in Lafayette, Indiana. We service a wide variety of domestic, Asian, and European vehicles and handle both dealership inventory reconditioning and customer repair work. We are looking for an experienced automotive technician who can begin working independently with minimal training . This is not an entry-level, apprentice, or basic oil-change position . The right candidate must be able to inspect vehicles, diagnose problems accurately, recommend necessary repairs, and complete quality work efficiently. Responsibilities Independently diagnose mechanical, electrical, drivability, and starting/charging issues Perform complete vehicle inspections and identify needed repairs Use professional scan tools and diagnostic equipment to determine root causes Complete repairs involving brakes, suspension, steering, cooling systems, HVAC, engines, sensors, and electrical systems Perform routine maintenance when needed, including fluids, tune-ups, belts, batteries, and filters Prepare used vehicles for sale by identifying and correcting mechanical and safety issues Clearly document diagnoses, repairs performed, parts needed, and additional findings Communicate repair recommendations accurately to the service team Complete repairs correctly and efficiently without unnecessary parts replacement Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area Perform quality-control checks before vehicles are returned to customers or placed for sale Required Qualifications At least 3 years of professional automotive repair experience Ability to begin working independently with minimal supervision Strong diagnostic ability beyond basic parts replacement Experience using professional scan tools such as Autel, Snap-on, Launch, or similar equipment Knowledge of automotive electrical systems, wiring diagrams, sensors, ECU systems, and CAN communication Experience repairing brakes, suspension, steering, cooling systems, HVAC, and common engine-related problems Ability to accurately identify the cause of a problem and determine the correct repair Ability to complete jobs efficiently while maintaining high-quality workmanship Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Dependable attendance and ability to arrive on time Must have basic personal hand tools necessary for daily repair work Preferred Qualifications ASE certifications Experience working in an independent repair shop or used car dealership Experience with multiple vehicle makes and models Advanced electrical and drivability diagnostic experience Experience with engine timing, internal engine repair, or other major mechanical work What We Offer Competitive hourly pay based on demonstrated experience and ability Consistent full-time weekday schedule Opportunity to work on a wide variety of vehicles and repair types Access to professional diagnostic equipment Paid training and continuing education support Professional development opportunities Employee discounts Growing company with opportunities for increased responsibility Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an experienced, dependable, and efficient technician who can come into the shop and begin producing quality work immediately. You should be comfortable handling vehicles from initial inspection through diagnosis and completed repair. We are looking for someone who takes pride in doing the job correctly, communicates clearly, works well with the service team, and does not rely on guessing or unnecessary parts replacement. This position is intended for an experienced technician. Applicants whose experience is limited primarily to oil changes, tire work, or basic maintenance may not be a fit for this role.
