II. SUMMARY OF POSITION'S PURPOSE
Performs routine maintenance and servicing responsibilities for school buses, vehicles, tractors and lawnmowers.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
•High School Diploma. Louisiana Contractor's License as a Vehicle Mechanic or a passing score on the NOCTI assessment for Vehicle Mechanics.
EXPERIENCE
•1-2 years experience as a vehicle mechanic SKILLS•Excellent knowledge of vehicle maintenance concepts and techniques.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
•Must be physically capable of lifting in excess of 25 pounds on a continual basis. This position requires frequent manual dexterity with close mental/visual attention and the ability to perform job functions in a standing position for a majority of the work day. This position is occasionally exposed to environmental extremes, chemicals and fumes. This position also requires the ability to perform climbing activities.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs various vehicle mechanic related administrative accountabilities including, but not limited to, determining the requirements of the job (design, time and material acquisition,) purchasing materials and setting up the jobsite to include interaction with principals, teachers, janitors and contractors. Performs basic servicing and preventative maintenance checks on school buses, vehicles, tractors and lawnmowers. Orders replacement parts on an as-needed basis. Coordinates bus driver distress calls, rental requests and parts order requests. Completes reports related to vehicle maintenance on an as-needed basis. Cleans the jobsite upon the completion of the activity. Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured. Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives. Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system. Performs other services as required.
