$27.63 - $30.29 Summary The Town of Shrewsbury is seeking a motivated team member to join the Fleet Management Division of the Department of Public Works as a Skilled Fleet Technician. Working under the Fleet Management Division Manager & Supervisor, this position will play a critical role in keeping our community safe and operational. The Skilled Fleet Technician will complete routine and complex manual work in the diagnosing the causes of malfunctions and servicing, maintaining and repairing automotive and other powered equipment and attachments such as automobiles, trucks, tractors, plows, spreaders, rollers, mixers, compressors, pumps, and emergency generators. Possession of a CDL B Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License as well as a Hydraulic Hoisting License minimum of 1C, 2A, 3A, 4E, & 4G, are preferred for this position. Candidates who meet the experience requirements but do not yet hold the full list of preferred licenses are still encouraged to apply and will be considered for a Fleet Technician Laborer position.
Key Responsibilities:
Assists in coordinating vehicle and equipment repair for all Town departments as needed. Communicates the expected timelines and costs for assigned repair work back to the Fleet Management Supervisor. Performs repairs to a variety of vehicles and equipment, such as pumps, excavators, backhoes, front end loaders, street sweepers, tractors, light duty cars and trucks, medium and heavy duty trucks, police cars, mini-buses, etc. Performs repairs on various components and systems of equipment and vehicles, such as gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, heating and cooling systems, exhaust systems, brake systems, suspension systems, and corrosion preventive light auto body work. Uses computer software and hardware to diagnose error codes and make proper repairs. Uses a computer to look up information regarding repairs, parts, and procedures. Maintains detailed electronic records of all maintenance activities performed. Accounts for replacement parts and helps maintain parts inventory and stock as directed. Operates heavy equipment for snow and ice operations. Works in all weather conditions. Maintains a clean and safe work environment in bays, offices, storage areas, etc. Performs other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.
Skills & Qualifications:
High School Diploma with two (2) to four (4) years of experience as a skilled mechanic engaged in locating defects and making repairs to automotive equipment, inclusive of heavy construction and maintenance equipment; or any equivalent combination of education or experience. Valid Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver's License and Massachusetts 1C, 2A, 3A, 4E, & 4G Hoisting Engineer's License preferred, or able to obtain within one year of hire. Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver's License required. Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of the automotive and heavy equipment mechanics trade. Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws as well as OSHA safety rules and regulations related to operations. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions as well as communicate effectively with others and explain semi-complex solutions. Ability to respond to emergency situations 24 hours a day. Work Hours & Benefits The hours are conveniently 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Monday through Friday, with overtime as required. A daily 30-minute lunch as agreed upon by the Fleet Management Supervisor.
