Job Description

American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 450+ employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the Trailer Maintenance Technician role in our Jessup, MD facility.
JOB SUMMARY
The Trailer Maintenance Technician will operate in a safe and efficient manner while troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining Class 8 over-the-road tractors and trailers in compliance with U.S. DOT, Maryland DOT, and all applicable safety and regulatory standards.
MAINTENANCE
Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on Class 8 tractors and trailers. Diagnoses and repairs trailer systems including brakes, suspension, airbags, lighting, air lines, tires, doors, floors, sides, and traps. Performs cutting, welding, fabrication, and structural repairs as needed. Conducts DOT inspections and ensures equipment remains compliant with all regulatory requirements. Repairs and replaces trailer panels, sheet metal, flooring, and undercarriage components. Analyzes mechanical and operational issues and makes necessary corrections. Tests equipment regularly to verify proper operation and performance. Replaces worn, damaged, or defective parts and rebuilds components when necessary. Services tractors and trailers to maintain safe and efficient operation. Oils, greases, and lubricates equipment as required. Safely operates forklifts, telehandlers, aerial lifts, and other mobile equipment. Completes work orders accurately and on schedule. Maintains equipment records and documentation. May assist with other maintenance duties as assigned. QUALITY Ensures all maintenance and repair work meets company quality standards and regulatory requirements. Verifies trailers and equipment are safe and ready for operation prior to release. Assists with identifying opportunities to improve maintenance procedures and equipment reliability. Maintains accurate maintenance records and inspection reports.
SAFETY AND ADMINISTRATION
Complies with OSHA Safety and Health regulations and company safety policies. Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Communicates effectively with supervisors, drivers, and fellow maintenance personnel regarding equipment conditions and repair needs. Documents completed repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities accurately. Attends and participates in safety meetings and training programs. Supports continuous improvement initiatives and promotes teamwork throughout the facility.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to frequently lift up to 60 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, and work in elevated locations for extended periods. Ability to safely work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to respond quickly to sounds and visual warnings. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment. Ability to work around moving equipment and vehicles safely.
OTHER DUTIES
Support the Maintenance Manager and maintenance team with additional initiatives and projects as assigned. Assist with facility maintenance activities as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum of 3 years of experience in Class 8 tractor and trailer maintenance, repair, and DOT inspections. Ability to perform certified DOT inspections. Strong knowledge of trailer brake systems, suspension systems, lighting systems, tires, and structural repairs. Welding and fabrication experience preferred. Class A CDL preferred but not required. ASE certifications preferred but not required. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to use computer-based maintenance systems, email, and electronic work orders. Must possess a personal set of basic mechanic tools.

$36.00 per hour
