Job Summary:
The Public Works Mechanic performs skilled maintenance and repair work on gasoline
- and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, including construction machinery, snow-removal units, and various powered and non-powered tools.
This role is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, removing, installing, disassembling, and assembling electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems, components, and engines. The mechanic also maintains accurate accountability of parts, tools, and materials required to support fleet maintenance and overall departmental operations. Pay for this fully benefitted position is $30.79
45 per hour, depending on experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Preventative maintenance — Performs routine maintenance, State safety inspections, and general repairs on assigned vehicles and equipment with minimal supervision. Facility maintenance — Completes basic cleaning and maintenance tasks in the garage and department facilities. Winter operations — Assists with snow-removal and related seasonal duties. Additional tasks — Performs other related work as assigned. Overtime — Works required scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
