QUALIFICATIONS
: 1. High school graduate or equivalent. 2. Possess State of Michigan Mechanic's Certification in appropriate repair categories: Master Heavy Duty (Truck), Engine Gas and Diesel (Truck), Drive Train (Truck), Suspension and Steering (Truck), Brakes and Braking System (Truck), Electrical System (Truck) and Transmission (Truck). 3. Formal mechanical training preferred with ASE Master Heavy Duty Truck Certification. 4. Four years of previous successful bus or truck experience, performing the work responsibilities described herein. Understanding and ability to properly care for and maintain all of the district's motorized vehicles. 5. Possess cabinet and tools necessary to perform responsibilities of the job. 6. Satisfactorily pass a DOT physical examination. Must be able to perform essential functions of job (strength/dexterity). 7. Dependability, initiative, self-reliance and honesty. 8. Continually present a neat appearance; well groomed, with clean and appropriate clothing. 9. Capable of getting along with co-workers and supervisor, and able to meet with others in a courteous, friendly and helpful manner. 10. Capable of reading directions and literature in the field with understanding, and the ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 11. Possess or obtain a Commercial Driver License - Group A endorsement, Passenger endorsement, "S" endorsement, and demonstrate ability to skillfully drive all the district's motorized vehicles. 12. Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.
RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO
: 1. Make weekly, monthly and annual inspections of vehicles, or as required, in order to ensure a minimum of equipment failure and a maximum of safety and economy of operation. 2. Report to supervisor any mechanical failure or defect of vehicle which could render it unsafe for operation. 3. Attend in-service training courses that will upgrade knowledge and skills and keep abreast of manufacturing changes. 4. Keep records and reports, including parts and supplies, as required. 5. Keep current a CDL with Group A , Passenger, and "S" endorsements. 6. Make repairs to vehicles as needed. 7. Maintain a proper inventory of parts and supplies. 8. Maintain tools, equipment and work spaces in a clean, safe and orderly condition. 9. Operate and maintain road service equipment. 10. Drive bus on scheduled routes. 11. Perform major and minor repairs to all parts of all vehicles. Examples of mechanical duties include, but are not necessarily limited to the following: a. Minor daily reports b. Tune ups c. Exhaust system d. Electrical system e. Drive train f. Steering g. Brake System h. Engine repair, overhaul, or replacement i. Body repair j. Suspension k. Electrical 12. Make recommendations as appropriate that may reduce vehicle repairs. 13. Keep current of all Federal and State requirements pertaining to school transportation vehicles. 14. Perform other duties as assigned.
