We are currently looking to fill a light mechanic/school bus driver position in our Metro location (St. Paul, MN). A 4.0 Mechanic will plan, schedule, repair and perform preventative maintenance on the 4.0 School Services fleet as needed; ensure the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition; and provide written documentation of repairs to meet 4.0 School Services, state and federal requirements. The Metro Fleet consists of about 70 Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Pacificas, and Ford Transit Connects.
Reports to:
Location Manager, General Manager, Parts/ Technical Lead Accurately inspects, diagnoses, and repairs fleet school buses/ vans. Performs road tests and inspects buses to ensure that malfunctions have been corrected and that the bus is operating safely and efficiently Exhibits skill and proficiency in performing repairs, and routine and preventive maintenance Keeps lead mechanic informed as to status of jobs in the shop Assures that buses conform to Minnesota DOT standards Maintains a high level of safety standards at all times while performing the responsibilities of the position. Promptly reports any abuse of buses and/or equipment to the lead mechanic and/or company manager Responsible for inventories of assigned tools and equipment Maintains work area in a safe, clean, and orderly condition; maintains equipment and tools in a safe and proper working condition; notifies appropriate personnel of unsafe working conditions Completes work orders and maintains records of time worked and materials used; recommends and assists with purchase of needed parts, supplies, and tools; completes records of vehicle maintenance and repair, parts cost, and vehicle inspections Serves as an emergency substitute bus driver or bus aide if an appropriate substitute cannot be secured. Performs duties and functions of these positions, and maintains all licenses and certifications required to perform these duties Performs emergency road service to disabled buses. Drives replacement bus to site and calls for service, when needed Uses a variety of hand tools, diagnostic equipment, welding equipment, and a variety of mechanical aids in the repair, adjustment, and maintenance of school buses Assists with checking road conditions during inclement weather, inspects for road hazards, and other safety related conditions as required by the company manager. Ensure proper snow and ice removal on premises Assists with driver training in the areas of daily pre-trip inspection and bus components identification Attends appropriate workshops and training programs as assigned by the company manager or 4.0 management team Understand and comply with 4.0 School services policies and district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
Qualifications:
Certifications:
Valid MN driver's license with a clean driving record. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger endorsement & School Bus endorsement, free of Air Brake restriction. Current DOT Medical Card. Clean drug test and background check required.
Requirements:
proof of good driving record, clean background check, attend onboarding and recurring training, must remain in compliance with state/division regulations regarding the use of controlled substances and alcohol as applied to school bus drivers and personnel in safety sensitive positions.
Skills:
Strong diagnostic and repair skills for various mechanical systems, including engines, transmissions, and electrical systems Ability to learn and upgrade job skills in order to meet changing demands of the position Excellent leadership and team management abilities. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships; demonstrates a commitment to teamwork The employee may be required to interact with the public, parents and other staff. The employee may be responsible for the safety and well-being of students Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with students, staff, and/or parent information Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism Ability to work independently with minimum supervision Proficient in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards for vehicle maintenance Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to safely operate a school bus and handle student transportation duties Proficiency in Google Applications, technology, and software Must fill in for any of the 4.0 part time positions tasks when needed, including, but not limited to: bus driver, van driver, NEMT driver, activity driver, aide, bus washer, and office cleaner.

$55,000.00 per year
