Mechanic Reports To General Manager Position Summary The Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing company vehicles, mobile equipment, and plant machinery to ensure safe and reliable operation. This position supports daily operations by helping minimize equipment downtime and completing repairs in a safe and timely manner. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, forklifts, loaders, and other plant equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and equipment-related problems.
Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, lubrication, and scheduled service.
Repair or replace worn and damaged parts.
Assist with maintenance and repairs on processing equipment and plant machinery.
Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
Inspect equipment and identify safety or maintenance concerns.
Communicate equipment issues and repair status to management and equipment operators.
Maintain tools, equipment, parts, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
Follow proper Lockout/Tagout procedures when servicing equipment.
Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, and maintenance concerns to management.
Perform welding and fabrication work as needed, when qualified.
Assist with emergency repairs and equipment breakdowns as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Previous mechanic, maintenance, heavy equipment, diesel, or industrial repair experience preferred.
Basic knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment safely and efficiently.
Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong attention to safety and detail.
Valid driver's license preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work in various positions for extended periods.
Ability to work around heavy equipment and industrial machinery.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Work Environment Work is performed in a heavy industrial scrap metal recycling environment. The position may involve exposure to noise, dust, grease, oils, moving equipment, uneven surfaces, and changing weather conditions. Required PPE may include safety glasses, hard hat, high-visibility clothing, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
