Job Description

Senior Diesel & Automotive Diagnostic Technician —

Field Service Location:
Charlotte, NC Pay:

$38-$50/hour, depending on experience

Schedule:

Monday-Friday (occasional weekends, infrequent)

Type:

Full-time

• Shop-based with paid field travel About the role An established manufacturer of specialized, purpose-built vehicles is hiring an experienced diagnostic technician to troubleshoot, repair, and support a fleet of highly customized heavy-duty trucks. These vehicles start life as Ford F-350 and F-550 platforms and are upfitted and integrated with specialized equipment for government, security, and emergency-response customers. This is not a typical dealership or repair-shop job. No two days look the same, the work is genuinely interesting, and you'll get to travel to unique locations and solve problems most techs never see. If you're a strong diagnostic tech who's tired of routine bumper-to-bumper work, this is a chance to do something different. What you'll do Diagnose and repair diesel and gas powertrains, plus electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. Track down drivability and electrical concerns using diagnostic software and OBD-II tools. Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and general service. Support troubleshooting on specialized vehicle modifications and equipment (we'll train you on the parts that are unique to us). Write up clean service reports and inspection records. Provide technical support to customers and internal teams. Travel to customer locations for field service, repairs, and inspections (travel is paid). Help with vehicle commissioning, testing, and quality checks. What you need 3+ years of diesel or automotive diagnostic experience. Solid hands-on diagnostic skills — electrical troubleshooting, drivability, and comfort reading wiring diagrams. Familiarity with OBD-II and general vehicle networks. A valid driver's license and a good driving record. Willingness to travel, and to obtain a passport for occasional international trips (we'll help with the process). Good communication and documentation habits. Don't check every box? Apply anyway. Much of what we do, nobody learns until they're here — if you're a sharp diagnostic tech with a good attitude, we'll teach you the rest. Nice to have (but not required) Experience on Ford truck platforms. ASE certifications or Ford factory training. Dealership, fleet, or heavy-duty maintenance background. Experience with emergency-response, law enforcement, commercial fleet, or specialty vehicles. Welding, fabrication, or upfitting experience.

What we offer Competitive pay:

$38-$50/hour based on experience. Comprehensive health insurance and a strong benefits package. Paid travel — travel time is paid, and we cover lodging and expenses (per diem on the road). Hands-on exposure to specialized vehicle technology you won't find anywhere else. Steady, full-time work with a Monday-Friday base schedule. Interesting, varied work supporting customers around the country and overseas. How to apply Apply directly through this posting. All applications are confidential.
