Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and inspections on a variety of heavy equipment, trucks, and machinery. This role supports safe and efficient operations by maintaining diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, booms, brakes, and other mechanical components in accordance with manufacturer and OEM specifications. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on diesel engines, booms, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, brakes, and other mechanical components.
  • Operate hoists, forklifts, and hand trucks to move, dismantle, and reassemble heavy materials and equipment.
  • Inspect and operate heavy equipment and machinery to diagnose defects and determine repair needs.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment following repair or assembly to ensure proper operation and compliance with manufacturer and OEM standards.
  • Clean, lubricate, and complete routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
  • Read and interpret operating manuals, blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Fabricate, modify, and install replacement parts or specialized equipment using welders, torches, plasma cutters, and metal cutting saws.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions using computerized diagnostic tools, calibration devices, and other testing equipment.
  • Inspect parts for wear or damage using gauges, micrometers, and precision measuring tools.
  • Repair, replace, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems and components.
  • Repair or replace damaged or worn parts on equipment and vehicles.
  • Communicate effectively with operators, mechanics, supervisors, and other team members regarding equipment status and repair needs.
  • Follow and promote all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Properly wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety boots, gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, and hard hats.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Work overtime and weekends as needed to support operational demands.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Shop Foreman or Branch Manager.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Technical training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment, trucks, cranes, or diesel-powered machinery preferred.
  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience using diagnostic software and computerized testing equipment preferred.
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or ability to obtain one may be required..
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical repair practices.
  • Ability to safely operate shop equipment, forklifts, hoists, and power tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift heavier materials with assistance or equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in physically demanding environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is performed in shop and field environments with exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, dust, noise, grease, vibration, and varying weather conditions.
  • Overtime, on-call work, and weekend hours may be required based on business and operational needs.
