The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) located in Cleveland, Ohio, is searching for an entry-level Mechanic within the Operations Division.
Detailed Description DUTIES:
Repairs buses, Paratransit vehicles, non-revenue vehicles, and associated equipment. The ideal candidate in this position is directly responsible for all repairs and works independently as required. Performs one or more of the following functions: Engine Diagnosis, Engine Replacement, Engine and Small Parts Rebuilding, Transmission Replacement, Differential Replacement and/or Rebuild, Brake, Front End, Suspension/Steering Work, Transmission Rebuilding, General Maintenance. The candidate in this position can be assigned to any of these duties according to need and can be reassigned to a different functional area at any time. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required. Job RequirementsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma or G.E.D. required. Completion of a high school or post-high school Automotive/Diesel Technology or related program (as evidenced by diploma, degree, certificate, etc.) is also required. To substitute for completion of an Automotive/Diesel Technology program, two (2) years of verifiable experience in an automotive or truck shop maintaining and repairing vehicle systems (e.g., engines, transmissions, brakes, and steering and suspension) or an ASE certification will be considered. A valid OH Driver's license. A temporary or permanent state of Ohio Commercial Driver's license (CDL) is required but not at the time of hire. Seeking Class A or B" license with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements, with no more than four (4) points in the past (3) three years. Those applicants who successfully pass the selection process without a permanent or temporary CDL may be offered the position contingent on obtaining the temporary CDL permit during training. The Candidates will be expected to pass a background check and a post-offer physical that is job related and consistent with business necessity. The performance of these duties may be required at any time and any day of the week. The position is a bargaining unit position. Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process must successfully pass an online exam, performance test, and interview. Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for Internal candidates: Written Test 42.5%, Performance test 42.5%, and Record Evaluation 15%. Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for External candidates: Written Test 50%, Performance Test 50%. All candidates must score a minimum of 70% or higher on both the written test and performance test and a minimum of 60% in the interview portion, to move forward in the process. Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain 15% weight. Records evaluation information includes a review of the following: 5 or more absence occurrences 2 or more AWOL or absence control suspensions 3 or more active written reminders (regardless of the level) 5 or more misses (regardless of whether they are active or not active) 4 or more active tardies Drug or alcohol suspension Commercial Drivers License (CDL) suspension Active Decision-Making Leave (DML)APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT PASS THE WRITTEN AND/OR PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT
