Job Description

Job Title:
Mechanic Job Description This role supports the head technician with the service, repair, and preparation of dewatering pumps and power units so they are ready to return to the field. You will dismantle and clean pump power units, assist with basic repairs, and help prepare equipment for repainting and repowering. This position is well suited for an entry-level candidate with strong mechanical aptitude who is eager to learn and grow into more advanced mechanical and fabrication responsibilities. Responsibilities Assist the head technician with the service and repair of dewatering pumps and power units. Clean, disassemble, and reassemble pumps and related components to prepare them for return to the field. Perform knockdown and teardown of pump power units and pump systems in preparation for repowering. Dismantle pump power units, clean components, scrape and sand surfaces, and prepare equipment for repainting. Conduct routine service work on pumps, including inspection, basic troubleshooting, and minor repairs as directed. Pull hoses, connect equipment, and test machines to ensure proper operation and readiness for deployment. Support welding and fabrication activities as needed; participate in welding training to assist with repairs when required. Use hand tools, power tools, and basic mechanical assembly techniques to complete daily tasks safely and efficiently. Assist trained mechanics by preparing equipment, parts, and work areas, serving as a prep person for more complex repairs. Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks on diesel-driven systems, pumps, and related equipment under guidance. Apply general knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and 12V electrical systems to support troubleshooting and repair. Maintain accurate, legible notes and documentation related to work performed, parts used, and equipment status. Follow all safety procedures when working in the shop, yard, and around forklifts, overhead cranes, and heavy equipment. Operate or assist with the operation of forklifts and overhead cranes after training to move pumps and components safely. Keep the work area clean and organized, and assist with general shop duties as needed to support the team. Respond to on-call assignments on a rotating schedule, supporting service needs outside regular business hours when required. Demonstrate flexibility and a team-first mindset by performing whatever tasks are needed around the shop to keep operations running smoothly. Essential Skills Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with knowledge of general mechanics, such as automotive, diesel, marine, or small engine experience. Basic experience or familiarity with mechanical assembly and disassembly of equipment and components. Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and repair tasks on mechanical and hydraulic systems under supervision. General knowledge of 12V electrical systems and a willingness to learn higher-voltage systems (230-460V). Understanding of preventive maintenance practices for mechanical and diesel-driven equipment. Proficiency using hand tools and basic shop tools safely and effectively. Ability to read and understand basic instructions, measurements, and technical information, supported by basic reading and mathematical skills. Legible handwriting for completing work orders, notes, and equipment records. Possession of a personal set of basic tools sufficient to start in the role, as outlined by the shop's tool list. Reliable transportation to and from the worksite. Willingness and physical ability to work in a dirty, non-climate-controlled shop and yard environment. Team-oriented attitude with a strong willingness to learn from experienced mechanics and follow direction. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with diesel engines or diesel-driven systems. Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems in a shop or field environment. Prior exposure to dewatering pumps, industrial pumps, or similar heavy equipment. Any welding experience, including basic welding, is a plus; the team is open to training motivated candidates in welding for repair work. Familiarity with mechanical assembly and teardown of power units or pump systems. Comfort operating or learning to operate forklifts and overhead cranes after training. Previous experience in a repair shop, equipment rental, or industrial maintenance environment. Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to perform prep work to support senior mechanics. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks in a busy shop environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Langhorne, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
