  • 11:45 am) Reports to Director of Student Services Employee Benefits Summary Role Overview This is a grant funded position that reports every day and will provide safe and reliable transportation to school for students who are homeless or for students who miss the bus, ensuring that they can still attend school and access their full instructional day.
When not assigned to a route, the driver will perform other duties as assigned by the Student Services Department. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED. Must be 21 years of age and have at least five (5) years' driving experience, during which time a valid driver's license was held. Demonstrates the ability to use technology including Microsoft Office and Google Applications. Meet all requirements enumerated in
COMAR 13A.06.07.09
(Qualifications and Disqualifications) Valid driver's license with no court-ordered restrictions. Have no more than two current points on driving record and have a satisfactory past driving record. Receive a negative controlled substance pre-employment test. Submit to drug and alcohol testing to include random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Preferred Qualifications Commercial and/or School Bus Driving Experience Provide acceptable references as to one's ability to work with and supervise students. Demonstrate an aptitude and competence for the position. Knowledge of Washington County roadways and school locations. Role Responsibilities Attend and successfully complete all pre-service and in-service training required to maintain certification as an alternative school vehicle driver. Obey all traffic laws and observe all safety regulations. Demonstration proper use of all safety equipment including the use of seat belts, booster seats, and shoulder harnesses. Exercise responsible leadership when transporting students. Enforce rules and regulations for students when transporting. Transport only authorized students and discharge only at authorized stops. Utilize technology to identify students requiring transportation and determine pick up locations near one another to maximize the number of students transported each trip. Document student pick up times, drop off times, and drop off locations in a digital database in between each pick up and drop off. Must maintain high confidentiality of all students. Report all accidents immediately to the Transportation Department and complete the required reports. Maintain discipline and report any discipline issues to proper authority. Keep the van clean. Keep to the assigned schedule. Notify proper authority in case of mechanical failure. Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools. Other duties as assigned Environmental Factors and Physical/Mental Requirements The Environmental Factors and Physical/Mental demands represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with others as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, and hear. Must be able to bend, crouch, stoop, reach, and climb stairs. Will be subjected to loud noises, dusts, fumes, hot and cold outdoor temperatures, and related weather conditions.
