04/02/2026 Fleet Services Leader Transportation Department Grade 14 of the ESP Salary Scale $30.47 - $55.12) 8 Hours/Day, 12-Month Work Year Reports to Fleet Services Supervisor Employee Benefits Summary Role Overview Assists in the overall operation of the Fleet Services facility by providing leadership and technical guidance to the maintenance team. Oversees vehicle diagnostics, coordinates repair activities, and manages parts and inventory to ensure efficient workflow and minimal downtime. Performs and supervises preventative maintenance and repairs on school buses and other motor vehicles owned by the Washington County Board of Education. Ensure all vehicles are maintained to the highest safety and reliability standards to support consistent and safe transportation for all eligible students. Minimum Requirements High school diploma/GED. Possess valid "CDL" driver's license � Class B with Passenger, Air Brake and School Bus Endorsement or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in automobile and truck maintenance, including diesel engine repair, emissions systems, diagnostics; must provide basic tools required to perform job duties. Meet & maintain all requirements to be certified as a School Vehicle Driver per
COMAR 13A.06.07.
Ability to use independent judgment related to the methods of repair. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Proficient in computer use, including basic software applications such as Microsoft Word and email platforms, along with the ability to operate and manage client/server fleet management, work order processing, and fuel management systems. Preferred Qualifications Possess the ability to assist in the administration of the fleet service facility, providing leadership and direction to other employees. ASE Certification in automobile/light truck or school bus. Completion of vocational or trade coursework to acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties of the position. Role Responsibilities Assist in the management of the fleet services facility. Work as a lead technician. Function as supervisor in the absence of the Fleet Service Supervisor. Assist in the coordination of school bus specifications. Assist in the State School Bus Inspection Program. Respond to after-hours service calls. Respond to early morning and off-hour calls during inclement weather. Assist in tracking and evaluating the data provided by the Fuel Management System. Assist in ordering parts and maintaining parts inventory. Possess the ability to work on the computer with Fleet Management Program System. Assist in the replacement and repairs of DVRs, cell phone, and GPS systems. Assist in responding to school bus accidents. Perform the duties of a substitute bus driver when needed. Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools. Other duties as assigned by Fleet Services Supervisor, Supervisor of Transportation, or his/her designee. Environmental Factors and Physical/Mental Requirements The Environmental Factors and Physical/Mental demands represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Required periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and other office equipment. Ability to sufficiently and efficiently move throughout the building and grounds for extended periods. Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with others as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, and hear. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to move, raise, lower, and carry objects up to 20 lbs. on a regular basis and 80 lbs. on an irregular basis. Must be able to bend, crouch, stoop, reach, and climb ladders and scaffolding. Will be subjected to loud noises, dusts, fumes, hot and cold outdoor temperatures and related weather condition.
