An 18-wheeler mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered semi-trucks, trailers, and heavy-duty commercial vehicles. This role ensures vehicles operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with transportation regulations. Duties and Responsibilities Inspect and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on semi-trucks and trailers Perform preventative maintenance services such as oil changes, brake inspections, tire rotations, and fluid checks Repair diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, suspensions, and steering systems Troubleshoot air brake systems and ABS components Repair electrical systems, lighting, wiring, and battery components Conduct DOT inspections and ensure FMCSA compliance Use diagnostic software and computerized testing equipment Replace damaged or worn parts and components Maintain accurate service and repair records Respond to roadside breakdowns or emergency repairs when needed Keep work areas clean and follow safety procedures Required Skills and Qualifications Knowledge of diesel engines and heavy truck systems Ability to use diagnostic tools and repair equipment Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Understanding of DOT and safety regulations Physical ability to lift heavy parts and work in various weather conditions Good communication and teamwork skills High school diploma or GED preferred Technical training or diesel mechanic certification preferredSimilar jobs in Beaumont, TX
