They install, fabricate, wire, and plumb new equipment on vehicles, following safety policies and Department of Transportation regulations. To be successful as an Upfitter Technician, you should have strong mechanical skills and adhere to all safety procedures and practices. Ultimately, an outstanding Upfitter Technician should be able to communicate effectively with customers and demonstrate excellent time management skills. Responsibilities Install equipment such as emergency lights, sirens, tool boxes, grill guards, inverters, and other accessories Disassemble and reassemble factory vehicles Read drawings, including electrical schematics Work independently and maintain accurate records Contribute ideas to the company Maintain shop bay and clean area daily to ensure safety and a clean work area. Maintain daily communications with Fleet service advisor on all aspects of the builds, including all known delays. Must have proper documentation on all warranty-based repair orders, including the three C's and other requirements as outlined by Chevrolet. Qualifications Experience with vehicle parts, systems, technology, and equipment Understanding of specialized configurations Ability to read and follow directions Comfortable working in an industrial environment Willing to perform heavy physical duties A valid driver's license and the ability to work legally in the US Pass a drug screening and criminal background check Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Will be expected to supply your own basic set of tools commonly used in the performance of automotive repair work.
