Job Description

Performs skilled duties of mechanic; plans, organizes, executes assignments pertaining to maintenance and repair of City equipment; performs related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent.
SUPERVISON EXERISED
None. 1. Tests and diagnoses problem areas on vehicles and equipment owned by the City and operated by City personnel. 2. Performs duties of auto mechanic as needed. 3. Maintains records on equipment serviced by the Maintenance Department. 4. Insures compliance with City maintenance policy and reports violations to Maintenance Superintendent. 5. Performs welding and fabrication as required. 6. Must work in a safety conscious manner. 7. Performs other duties as assigned. 8. Attendance is an essential function of the job. 9. Exhibits the City of Harker Heights' Core Values. Required Education, Degrees, Certificates and/or
Licenses :
High school diploma or GED; at least three (3) years of previous job-related experience is required. Must be able to obtain Texas CDL within six (6) months from date of hire. Driving record must be such that employee is insurable to drive City vehicles.
Mental Requirements :
Requires constant alertness to recognize varying facts, conditions, and situations which are normally not obvious nor easily recognized. Requires mental application and attention to details and actions requiring care and concentration. Requires analysis of causes and effects of many factors or variables involved in the job. Required initiative and ingenuity in presenting involved procedures and standards. Must exercise independent judgment with complicated choices of action in reaching conclusions and making decisions from facts, conditions, and/or situations that are not an obvious choice.
Working Conditions and Hazards :
Physical working conditions are such that hazards to include, but not limited to, burns, cuts, or sprains may be encountered despite safety measures taken and health precautions. Physical surroundings and working conditions generally involve element conditions. The worker encounters extreme or continuous exposure to or contact with dirt, dust, fumes, water, poor lighting, noise, and temperature changes. Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above required knowledges, skills, and abilities is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
