Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic team as a Fleet Maintenance Technician and play a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our fleet of Class 8 trucks and trailers. This position offers the opportunity to work on modern Freightliner Cascadia and Peterbilt tractors in a fast-paced, professional fleet maintenance environment. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will perform inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance to keep our fleet operating safely and efficiently. Key Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication services, fluid checks, and filter replacements on Class 8 trucks. Diagnose and repair air brake systems, including brake pads, drums, chambers, slack adjusters, valves, and air-line plumbing. Perform suspension, steering, and wheel-end repairs, including wheel seals and bearing inspections. Mount, balance, rotate, and repair heavy-duty truck tires while identifying abnormal wear patterns. Conduct comprehensive safety inspections to identify mechanical defects, fluid leaks, worn components, cracked frames, and other safety concerns. Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including exterior lighting, batteries, wiring harnesses, and trailer electrical connections. Diagnose engine, aftertreatment, and electrical faults on Freightliner and Peterbilt trucks using OEM diagnostic software such as Detroit Diagnostic Link (DDDL), Cummins INSITE, and other manufacturer diagnostic tools. Accurately document inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and parts used within the company's fleet maintenance software. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all company safety procedures. Required Qualifications & Skills Minimum 2 years of experience repairing and maintaining Class 8 commercial trucks. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, wheel ends, suspension, and electrical systems. Experience performing electronic diagnostics on Freightliner and Peterbilt trucks using Detroit Diagnostic Link (DDDL), Cummins INSITE, or similar OEM diagnostic software is highly preferred. Ability to read fault codes, troubleshoot electrical and engine-related issues, and perform accurate root cause diagnostics. Must possess a basic set of hand tools and a toolbox suitable for daily heavy-duty repairs (STS provides specialty shop equipment and safety gear). Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record (CDL Class A is an asset but not required). Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work safely in a heavy-duty truck repair environment. Dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
