Job Description

An Automotive Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing vehicles, including cars, trucks, and SUVs. Their duties typically involve using tools and diagnostic equipment to identify issues, performing maintenance tasks, and ensuring vehicles are in optimal working condition. Automotive Technicians also maintain a clean and safe working environment and may interact with customers to explain repairs and provide estimates. Key responsibilities of an Automotive Technician include: Performing diagnostic tests on electrical and mechanical systems to identify vehicle issues Replacing or repairing parts, such as brakes, steering components, and engines Conducting routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks Documenting repairs and maintaining detailed records of work performed Ensuring vehicles meet safety standards before returning them to customers Typical qualifications for an Automotive Technician include: A high school diploma or GED certificate Some form of vocational training or certification, such as an associate degree in auto maintenance and repair Experience in automotive repair, possibly including 3+ years of experience Certification from manufacturer-specific training programs or ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification Strong mechanical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment Automotive Technicians may also be required to: Lift objects weighing 50 lbs or more Maintain a professional appearance and provide excellent customer service Stay updated with new technologies and vehicle features through continued training
