The Motor Vehicle Mechanic performs a variety of major repairs and services to maintain tactical, commercial and transport vehicles. Conducts research and prepares records and forms to reflect essential information. Ensures all documents are finalized and maintained IAW AR 750-1, Army Material Maintenance Policy. Performs maintenance repair, rebuild, overhaul, perform assessments on (i.e., engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, differentials and other major assemblies) to determine repair parts required for equipment and report findings to shop lead. Checks and replaces batteries, rotate/repair and replace tires, and flush cooling systems. Adjust brakes, replace windshield wipers, light assembles and similar components of the same characteristics. Performs major overhauls by disassembling, cleaning, and replacing faulty components IAW TB's (Technical Bulletins) and TM's (Technical Manuals) and Manufacturer's Repair Manual procedures. Repairs components such as generators, water/hydraulic pumps, and electrical systems. Able to read, understand and articulate the schematics for repairs of mechanical and electrical systems. Performs routine and extensive maintenance on diesel engines, fuel and exhaust systems, and electrical wiring. Preforms diagnostic tests using measuring devices, instruments, test equipment and/or specialty tools. Required to dismantle components for internal examination of damage or excessive wear. Operates and utilizes an assortment of tools to perform repairs that include power tools, pneumatic tools, and machinery such as grinding machines, presses, torch-cutting equipment, jacks, and lifting hoist. Required to add critical or explanatory notations on completed maintenance documents following equipment repair and testing
IAW AR 750-1.
General Requirements In-depth knowledge of standard tools, diagnostic equipment and mechanical systems. Knowledge of the proper use to manage hazardous materials and hazardous waste products. Provide personal common hand-tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, sockets, and wrenches to support daily operations. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds and work occasionally outside. Ensure that all tasks are performed safely. Able to wears safety items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) e.g. gloves, safety shoes, protective eyewear, hearing protection, and other items such as aprons or outerwear as appropriate. Must have a valid state issued driver's license and able to obtain Government/Army license. Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions. Perform other duties as required to support the mission and contractual requirements. Must have basic computer skills and able to obtain Common Access Card (CAC) for the use of government computers. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Education and Citizenship Requirements Must have 5 years of experience in a similar role. Must have a High School Diploma and/or equivalent qualifications. Must be able to pass federal background check to obtain access to federal government property. US nationality/citizenship and residence, with verbal and written fluency in English. This is a civilian position and doesn't require enlistment
