Overview Freight Northwest is looking for a light duty mechanic to perform small repairs on semi trucks and their trailers. This would include lights, and other small jobs. Applicants must be certified to perform DOT inspections, brake inspections and adjustments. This is a position that can grow with the applicant's skill set. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on trailers, including brake systems, suspensions, axles, and electrical components. Conduct maintenance on heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, and farm machinery to ensure optimal performance. Fabricate parts and modify equipment using welding, soldering, hand tools, and power tools to meet specific repair needs. Utilize schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues accurately. Repair diesel engines, transmissions, air brake systems, shocks & struts, HVAC units, hydraulics, and steering components. Conduct wheel alignments, tire services, and suspension repairs to maintain vehicle safety standards. Assist with assembly of new trailers or equipment upgrades while adhering to safety protocols. Perform preventive maintenance tasks regularly to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan. Qualifications Proven mechanic experience with a strong background in automotive diagnostics and heavy equipment repair. Dealership experience is highly preferred for familiarity with manufacturer standards. Skilled in fabrication techniques including welding and soldering; capable of working with schematics for troubleshooting complex systems. Hands-on experience operating excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors-trailers, and other industrial or farm machinery. Knowledge of diesel engine repair, transmissions, air brake systems, hydraulics, suspension systems, and HVAC units. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, electrical testing devices, and maintenance equipment. Ability to lift heavy components safely during repairs or installations; comfortable performing heavy lifting tasks regularly. Excellent customer service skills with a focus on safety compliance and quality workmanship.
