We are currently seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic at our Brookfield, Wisconsin branch location. A Fleet Mechanic performs a variety of skilled and technical tasks in the maintenance and repair for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and other small engine equipment. Work ranges from minor repair to overhaul of equipment such as trucks, rollers, loaders, compressors, pumps, and other heavy construction equipment. Qualifications Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of recent mechanic experience. Have a good understanding of the content of the equipment manuals for the equipment that this position would utilize. Possess knowledge of keeping the equipment clean, washed and always in a ready to be used state. Be able to troubleshoot for equipment breakdowns and then complete the truck & equipment repair report. Be able to demonstrate proper safety, maintenance, start up, shut down and operation of the equipment this position would utilize. Dependable and trustworthy with the ability to perform physically demanding work in extreme weather conditions. Must be able to lift and move around without strain 50-75 pounds. Advanced certification in refrigeration a plus. DOT certification is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid, regular driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report (MVR). Responsibilities Perform inspections, maintenance and repairs on various equipment and on automobiles, pick-up trucks, one-ton dump trucks, medium and heavy duty dump trucks, backhoes, wheel loaders, light pole crane trucks, trenchers, directional boring machine, aerial bucket trucks, stump grinders, brush chippers, skid steers, horizontal drill truck, trailer mounted engine driven air compressors, 2 and 4-cycle lawn mowers, weed trimmers, blowers, chain saws, rototillers, edgers, sprayers, small diesel tractors, diesel utility tractors, concrete grinders, generators, trailer mounted trash pumps, snow blowers, salt spreaders, and snow plows. Perform repairs (diagnose/repair/replace) on gas and diesel engines, transmissions, drive shafts, differentials, and drive axels; hydraulic and air brake systems; steering system parts, power steering, steering linkage, and steering alignment; suspension systems coil spring, strut and leaf spring, air spring parts, and components. Repair electrical DC 12- and 24-volt lights; create electrical wiring and circuits to update or modify equipment; repair closed loop electrical systems in gas and diesel engine control computers and transmissions. Repair vehicle heating, ventilation, air conditioning, thermostats, fan motors, switches, vent cables, and controls; repair vehicle air conditioning components, compressors, condensers, evaporators, pressure switches, hoses, and recharge A/C system. Conduct preventative maintenance of vehicles; replace air filters, fuel filters, transmission fluid and filters, engine oil and filters, lubricate chassis and cab; repair brake components, steering and suspension, electrical systems, cab H/VAC filters, lighting, including headlights, taillights, and brake lights. Perform hydraulic system repairs; hydraulic pumps and drive systems, hydraulic motors cylinders, pressure relief devices, system controls, switches, hoses, and valve bodies. Perform snow plow system repairs; snow plow brackets, hitches, electric controls and cable controls; salt spreader and pre-wet systems, salt spreader augers, hydraulic motors, electric controls, and bearings. Address unexpected equipment failure situations promptly and effectively. Collaborate with other mechanics and assist as needed. Prioritize safety in all work performed and maintain a clean and organized workspace. Must be able to work independently and make own decisions (seeking guidance when necessary).
