Structures Mechanic - Heavy Checks
THIS ROLE IS FOR EVERETT, WA AND IS POSTED FOR TRAVELERS
Job Description This role focuses on performing heavy checks and structural modifications on B737 and A330 aircraft within a large MRO hangar and shop campus in Everett, WA. You will carry out complex structural repairs, heavy interior modifications, and precision installations while working from OEM and engineering drawings to ensure aircraft are maintained and modified to the highest standards. Responsibilities Perform heavy checks and modification work on B737 and A330 aircraft, including C checks and cabin modification projects. Carry out heavy interior modifications by efficiently removing and reinstalling cabin monuments without rework. Modify and repair aircraft water and waste interface systems in line with engineering specifications. Accurately locate and install monument hard points on floor structures using precision measurement and layout techniques. Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft component structures, ensuring structural integrity and compliance with standards. Repair and modify flight control surfaces and related components using approved methods and tools. Operate and maintain special installation tools, including blind rivet guns, to perform structural fastening tasks. Interpret and utilize OEM and engineering drawings to modify aircraft structures and complete assigned work scopes. Perform specialized structural tasks such as flap peening and cold working as required by the repair or modification plan. Fabricate repair parts using special shop tooling such as brakes and stretchers to produce accurate, airworthy components. Use basic and advanced hand tools, including hi-lok pliers, to complete structural assembly, drilling, and fastening work. Participate in orientation and safety training during the first week and then transition into the assigned heavy check hangar schedule. Follow all safety procedures, shop practices, and quality standards while working in hangars and shop areas. Collaborate with other technicians and teams to ensure efficient completion of heavy checks and modification projects. Document work performed in accordance with maintenance and repair procedures and organizational requirements. Essential Skills At least 4+ years of precision aircraft structures drilling and blind riveting experience in an MRO environment. Proficiency with aircraft structures installation, repair, drilling, and riveting, including blind fasteners. Ability to interpret and work from OEM and engineering drawings for aircraft structural modifications. Experience working with airframe structures and flight control surfaces in a maintenance or modification setting. Capability to use and maintain basic hand tools, including wrenches, socket sets, bucking bars, and hi-lok pliers. Comfort working with specialized installation tools such as blind rivet guns and other structural tooling. Willingness to work any assigned shift and remain open to 1st or 2nd shift scheduling. Ability to follow safety procedures and complete orientation and safety training prior to starting regular duties. Strong attention to detail and ability to perform precision work on critical aircraft structures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Preferred experience with heavy interior modifications, including cabin reconfiguration projects. Preferred heavy check or modification experience on Airbus aircraft and systems. Familiarity with Airbus water and waste interface systems is preferred. Experience fabricating repair parts using shop tooling such as brakes and stretchers. Ability to perform specialized tasks such as flap peening and cold working. Ownership of basic hand tools and hi-lok pliers; additional tools such as die grinders, rivet guns, ball peen hammers, and blue dent hammers are advantageous. Experience working in a heavy check MRO environment with large transport category aircraft. Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with other structures and systems technicians. Work Environment Work takes place in large, indoor heavy check hangars and shop areas dedicated to aircraft maintenance and modification. The first week consists of orientation and safety training, typically scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (occasionally concluding by Thursday). After orientation, you will move to an assigned floor shift, which may be 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday. The role regularly offers 10 to 20 hours of overtime, depending on project needs. You will work with a range of aircraft structural tools and equipment, including basic hand tools, hi-lok pliers, blind rivet tools, brakes, stretchers, and other shop tooling, while operating in a structured, safety-focused maintenance environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Los Angeles, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
