General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Integration Technician currently working in our Aeronautical Systems to support our Test Operations at our Palmdale, CA facility. In this position you will be responsible for performing a wide variety of complex structural, composite, mechanical and/or electrical operations to ensure appropriate aircraft systems are installed, modified, repaired, tested and operational. The position performs complex system modifications due to technical updates, and/or customer requests, which require disassembly, modification, reassembly, and testing of structural, composite, mechanical and/or electrical system. The position may also perform structural, composite, avionic, and electrical repairs. May provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff. Following technical documentation monitors, tests and verifies quality, completes required documentation, and when necessary troubleshoots and resolves issues. Keeps up to date on regulatory requirements, and participates in program development, with engineering and management, by identifying solutions and recommending updates to technical procedures that improve integration processes, quality, and record maintenance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs, modifies and tests aircraft structural, composite, avionics, and/or electrical systems to ensure they are operational and meet required quality standards. Investigates and analyzes project requirements and operating problems and develops and recommends solutions to meet performance and safety standards. Troubleshoots complex system issues including mechanical, engine, fuel or electrical. Designs new or recommends modified parts or components and recommend updates to technical procedures that improve integration processes, quality and record maintenance. Performs complex aircraft repairs and rework on composite, metal or laminate assemblies, parts, components and/or structures utilizing inspection and rework instructions. Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations. Evaluates operating data on parts and components and systems to establish causes and determine remedies. Performs complex system modifications due to technical updates and/or customer requests including final operational testing and assurance to ensure they meet quality standards. Completes all required documentation in accordance with established company procedures and/or government and customer technical order requirements. May participate in the performance of airframe operational checks, installation of payloads and Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) in accordance with company and customer guidelines. May perform launch recovery tasks of aircraft to include ground operations preflight items, ground observer responsibilities and post flight items. May provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff and may develop and deliver training. Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices. Other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications Typically requires an Associate's degree in a related field or military/trade school equivalence and two or more years' of progressive experience in aircraft assembly and/or maintenance. Additional related technical experience may be substituted in lieu of the formal education. The position requires considerable knowledge and understanding of: Structural, composite, mechanical and electrical aircraft processes, systems and associated regulations. Aircraft related assembly/repair/installation processes, tools, composites, templates, fixtures, testing and measuring devices as well as judgment to determine correct process, tools, and/or material. The position also requires technical experience: Reading, interpreting, and explaining blueprints, drawings, and maintenance manuals. Installing, inspecting, modifying, adjusting and testing various complex aircraft assemblies and structures. Completing required technical documentation. Good communication, interpersonal, and computer skills are required to effectively interface with management, staff and/or other departments, and the ability to organize, plan and schedule work to meet deadlines, as well as some experience providing leadership and guidance to less experienced staff. Customer focused, able to work both independently and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours when required. A Composite trade school certificate, Federal Aviation Administration A&P license, and/or military aircraft maintenance and assembly training are desirable. Must be able to work both independently and on a team. Must have flexibility to work any shift, if necessary. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
