Job Summary:
The Maintenance Technician supports the Maintenance Manager in performing repairs, preventative maintenance, and general upkeep across all NHG Denali properties—including restaurants, hotels, brewery facilities, employee housing, and outdoor infrastructure. This role is hands-on, varied, and essential to the safe and efficient operation of our seasonal properties. The ideal candidate has a broad base of technical skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to troubleshoot issues in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to): General Maintenance Repairs Perform routine maintenance duties including minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical system repairs. Assist with HVAC, refrigeration, water systems, and heating equipment as directed. Support seasonal opening and closing of all NHG Denali properties (spring activation and fall winterization). Clean and maintain interior and exterior building areas, machinery, equipment, and grounds. Assist with snow removal and outdoor custodial tasks as needed. Diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance issues; escalate to Maintenance Manager when necessary. Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests. Maintain accuracy in maintenance logs, checklists, and administrative reports. Equipment Systems Support Help inspect belts, filters, fluids, bearings, seals, and other key components during preventive maintenance cycles. Assist in repairing or replacing broken or worn components on building systems and equipment. Provide support with monitoring and operating computer-controlled mechanical systems as trained. Assist with the installation or repair of wiring, fixtures, switches, and basic electrical components.
Seasonal Operational Support Spring Opening:
Support flushing water lines, sanitizing tanks, checking heaters, verifying systems, and preparing employee housing. Assist in stocking plumbing, electrical, and maintenance supplies for the season.
Summer Operations:
Help complete ongoing facility repairs, special projects, and sewer tank monitoring and pumping.
Fall Shutdown:
Assist in draining lines, closing valves, shutting off utilities, packing hoses, boarding buildings, and ensuring winter readiness. Inventory, Supplies Vendor Coordination Maintain inventory of tools, cleaning products, and repair materials; report shortages to the Maintenance Manager. Support coordination with outside contractors and technicians. Ensure tools, equipment, and supplies are stored safely and maintained in good working condition. Safety Compliance Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate protective gear. Maintain clean, safe, and organized workspaces. Assist with implementing departmental safety protocols. Identify potential hazards and communicate concerns promptly.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or GED. 2+ years of general maintenance experience. Ability to perform basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical tasks. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and perform physical labor including bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, and lifting up to 50+ lbs. Ability to read and understand safety rules, operating instructions, and maintenance documentation. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to follow directions. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or extended hours during seasonal peaks.
Preferred:
Experience with HVAC, refrigeration, or mechanical systems. Experience in hospitality, facilities, or multi-site environments. Knowledge of tools, materials, and methods used in building maintenance.
Work Environment:
Work may occur across hotels, restaurants, breweries, employee housing, and outdoor areas. Exposure to loud noise, slippery surfaces, uneven ground, chemicals, and mechanical equipment. Outdoor work in variable weather conditions, including cold temperatures in spring and fall.
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and handling tools or equipment. Ability to move and carry objects up to 50-75 lbs; occasional heavier lifting with assistance. Clear verbal communication required for team coordination and safety.
Position Type Expected Hours of Work:
Hours vary seasonally depending on maintenance needs, emergency repairs, and opening/closing operations. Overtime, split shifts, or extended hours may be required during peak work periods.
