Job Title:
Maintenance Technician - Foundry Plant Job Description This direct-hire Maintenance Technician position in a unionized foundry environment focuses on keeping melting, casting, and painting equipment running safely and efficiently. You will perform both mechanical and electrical maintenance and troubleshooting on industrial machinery, respond quickly to equipment breakdowns, and complete preventive maintenance to support continuous production in a high-heat, fast-paced setting. Responsibilities Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on foundry equipment and related production machinery. Maintain, repair, and adjust equipment used in metal melting, casting molds, and painting operations to minimize downtime. Diagnose and repair issues with industrial systems such as hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, motors, drives, rollers, conveyor systems, switches, and heat pumps. Conduct preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment to improve reliability and extend service life. Work safely in a non-climate-controlled, high-heat, and dirty environment while following all safety policies and procedures. Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, assess root causes, and implement effective repairs to restore operation. Use electrical troubleshooting techniques on 480-volt and 3-phase systems, including PLC troubleshooting where required. Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to perform accurate repairs and installations. Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks as needed to support equipment repair and maintenance. Collaborate with production and maintenance team members to prioritize work orders and support smooth plant operations. Properly use and care for required personal protective equipment and tools while maintaining a clean and organized work area. Essential Skills Proven experience performing both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability to maintain and repair equipment used in melting, casting, and painting processes. Strong skills in industrial maintenance, including multicraft maintenance and electrical maintenance. Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in a production setting. Ability to troubleshoot and repair 480-volt and 3-phase electrical systems. Experience with PLC troubleshooting for industrial equipment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical diagrams. Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing motors, drives, gearboxes, rollers, conveyor systems, switches, and heat pumps. Comfort working at heights and in hot, dirty, non-climate-controlled environments. Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced industrial setting and respond quickly to breakdowns. Commitment to following safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment. Ability to provide and wear steel-toe boots as part of required PPE. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a maintenance technician in a foundry or heavy industrial environment. Experience in preventive maintenance programs for industrial machinery. Welding experience to support maintenance and repair tasks. Familiarity with maintenance repair practices for a wide range of industrial equipment. Ability to work effectively across different shifts as needed by the operation. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Work Environment This position is based in a unionized foundry facility that specializes in metal melting, casting molds, and painting operations. The environment is non-climate-controlled, high-heat, and can be dirty, requiring comfort working in physically demanding industrial conditions and at heights. Shifts operate Monday through Friday on three schedules: 1st shift from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, 2nd shift from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, and 3rd shift from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. You will work around heavy industrial equipment, including conveyors, rollers, gearboxes, motors, drives, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and 480-volt, 3-phase electrical systems, as well as PLC-controlled machinery. Required personal protective equipment is provided, including a mask (required in the foundry), safety vest, and hard hat, while you must supply your own steel-toe boots. The dress code is industrial workwear suitable for a hot, dirty environment, combined with the specified PPE to ensure safety on the plant floor.
