Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and hands-on Hotel Maintenance / Chief Engineer to lead the maintenance and engineering operations of our hotel. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in keeping a property looking its best, enjoys solving problems, and understands the importance of providing guests with a safe, clean, comfortable, and well-maintained hotel experience. The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, preventative maintenance, safety, and efficient operation of the hotel's physical plant, guest rooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems. This position works closely with the General Manager and hotel leadership while also coordinating outside contractors and vendors as needed. What You'll Do Oversee the day-to-day operation of the hotel's Maintenance/Engineering Department. Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance concerns and service requests. Maintain guest rooms, public areas, building exteriors, mechanical rooms, and hotel equipment in excellent condition. Perform and/or coordinate repairs involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, appliances, fixtures, painting, carpentry, and general building maintenance. Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program. Complete regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, mechanical rooms, the building exterior, and hotel equipment. Maintain and monitor HVAC systems, boilers, fire alarm and life-safety systems, utility meters, swimming pool equipment, roof systems, elevators, emergency equipment, and other building systems. Maintain required inspection, repair, preventative maintenance, and life-safety documentation. Monitor energy and utility consumption and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and control costs. Maintain an organized maintenance shop, storage areas, tools, equipment, parts, and supplies. Ensure chemicals and hazardous materials are properly labeled, stored, secured, and accompanied by required Safety Data Sheets. Manage the hotel's work-order system, ensuring maintenance requests are prioritized and completed in a timely manner. Obtain bids and coordinate contractors and vendors for repairs, projects, inspections, and capital improvements. Ensure contractors meet required licensing, insurance, and bonding requirements. Assist management with annual engineering budgets, capital improvement recommendations, and long-term maintenance planning. Maintain required equipment permits, elevator inspections, licenses, and other documentation. Help ensure the property complies with OSHA, ADA, fire/life-safety requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Participate in hotel safety and emergency preparedness programs. Train employees on applicable safety procedures, emergency response, chemical handling, and proper equipment use. Support hotel operations, including meeting, banquet, and sales functions when necessary. Be familiar with all major water, electrical, gas, fire alarm, and emergency shut-off locations. Perform additional maintenance and operational duties as needed. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can identify problems, prioritize repairs, manage preventative maintenance, and take ownership of the overall condition of the hotel. Must also be able to pass a background check. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of hotel, commercial building, apartment/multi-family, or similar maintenance experience. Previous hotel engineering or maintenance leadership experience strongly preferred. Proven experience maintaining a building of similar size and complexity. Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, general repairs, and preventative maintenance. HVAC, electrical, plumbing, pool, CPO, or other maintenance-related licenses/certifications are a plus. Four-year degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience preferred. Ability to troubleshoot problems and complete repairs independently. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Good communication skills and a guest-service mindset. Ability to work effectively with hotel leadership, employees, vendors, contractors, and guests. Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work with limited supervision. Must be willing to respond to urgent maintenance or property issues when necessary. Physical Requirements This is an active, hands-on position.
Candidates must be able to:
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Push or pull carts and equipment weighing up to approximately 200 pounds. Stand and walk for extended periods. Bend, kneel, reach, climb, and work in confined or mechanical areas as necessary. Safely use hand and power tools. Work both indoors and outdoors and occasionally in areas with extreme temperatures. Safely work around cleaning chemicals, water-treatment products, paint products, degreasers, and other maintenance materials while using appropriate personal protective equipment. Why Join Our Team?
