Job Summary Job Summary Under the direction of the Principal and/or the Director of Pupil Services, the primary responsibilities are to provide instruction to special education students with IEPs who require modifications or specific instructional strategies, individually and/or in the general education classroom setting and to collaborate with classroom teachers and to perform assessments for triennials. Essential Elements:
Print Under the direction of the Principal and the Director of Pupil Services, the primary responsibilities are to provide instruction to special education students who require modifications or specific instructional strategies individually, in small groups and in the general education classroom setting, to collaborate with classroom teachers and case manage 6th grade students with IEPs.
Representative Duties:
Representative Duties :
Design and implement curriculum and lesson plans for individualized and group instruction, schedule instructional periods, provide direct instructional support to students with special needs, individually and/or in the general education classroom setting, modify curriculum and instruction that enhance the student's learning of the core curriculum and provide for continued development in areas of student's strengths, assist with planning individualized education programs, and write goals and objectives using district Standard and Benchmarks. Provide consultation to staff and parents of special needs students. Conduct assessments, develop individualized educational program (IEP), participate as a member of IEP meetings, provide instruction as required by the IEP, monitor the implementation of the IEP, and evaluate student progress on a regular basis. Train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned instructional assistant(s). Participate in special education staff meetings and site faculty meetings. Evaluate the ongoing effectiveness of the program in cooperation with Principal and Director of Pupil Services. Case Manage 6th grade students with IEPs.
Knowledge of:
A variety of research-based instructional strategies appropriate for handicapping conditions. Principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development and classroom instruction. Successful collaboration and co-teaching strategies. Special education guidelines in accordance with State and Federal regulations. Use of technology in Special Education Ability to: Provide special education assessments. Write legally compliant and educationally meaningful assessment reports. Work in a collaborative relationship with parents, teachers and special education staff members. Design and implement appropriate behavior management systems and techniques for use in instructional and disciplinary situations. Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, paraprofessionals and IEP team members. Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must have Learning Handicapped with Resource Specialist, or Mild/Moderate Specialist credential.
