Job Description

Job Description The Senior Maintenance Technician is an advanced-level technician responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving production equipment in a battery manufacturing environment. This role handles complex mechanical and electrical issues, supports plant utilities, and provides technical guidance to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues on production equipment across casting, pasting, cell, and final assembly operations, as well as all supporting equipment Perform advanced troubleshooting on mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems Execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability and uptime Identify root causes of recurring failures and implement corrective actions Support Production Operations Respond to equipment downtime with urgency to restore production Support line changeovers, startups, and equipment adjustments Work closely with operations to prioritize maintenance activities and minimize disruption Technical Contribution Provide hands-on assistance to less experienced mechanics/technicians as needed Assist in coordinating daily maintenance activities and communicating priorities Help drive consistent troubleshooting and repair practices across the maintenance team Fabrication & Equipment Improvement Fabricate or modify guards, brackets, fixtures, and machine components to improve safety and reliability Support equipment upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives Assist with installation and commissioning of new or modified equipment Utilities & Facility Support Monitor and support plant utility systems, including dust collection and wastewater treatment Identify and address issues that may impact safety, compliance, or production uptime Support compressed air and other plant support systems as needed Safety & Compliance Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements Work safely in a battery manufacturing environment with lead exposure controls Identify and report unsafe conditions and participate in corrective actions Supervisory Responsibilities N/A Competencies To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability Sense of urgency in supporting production Safety-first mindset Accountability and ownership of equipment performance Ability to work independently and support team success Clear, direct communication in a production environment Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or equivalent required Technical training or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance (preferred but not required) 10+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment Technical Skills Electrical & Controls Strong working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including ability to: Troubleshoot 120V-480V circuits in a manufacturing environment Diagnose issues with motors, starters, contactors, overloads, and disconnects Identify faults in sensors, switches, relays, and control components Troubleshoot VFDs, soft starts, and motor control systems Use multimeters and clamp meters to safely identify electrical issues Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, and panel layouts Familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment, including: Ability to troubleshoot basic I/O issues, identify electrical vs. controls-related problems, and work with controls or engineering to resolve issues Mechanical Expertise Advanced mechanical troubleshooting and repair of complex production equipment Strong understanding of rotating equipment, including shafts, bearings, couplings, and alignment Experience diagnosing and repairing: Conveyors and automated material handling systems Gearboxes, chains, belts, and drive systems Hydraulic and pneumatic systems (valves, cylinders, regulators) Ability to perform precision mechanical work, including alignment, fitting, and component replacement Strong understanding of wear patterns, failure modes, and root cause identification Fabrication & Machining Proficient in fabrication and repair of equipment components, including: Welding (MIG preferred; TIG/Stick a plus) Cutting, grinding, and fitting of metal components Experience operating shop equipment: Lathe, drill press, grinders, and other machining tools Ability to fabricate guards, brackets, fixtures, and modify equipment to improve safety and reliability Thermal & Process Equipment Experience with gas-fired and temperature-controlled equipment, including: Industrial ovens, dryers, and curing systems Gas burners, regulators, and valve trains Flame safety devices and basic combustion systems Ability to troubleshoot heating, airflow, and temperature control issues affecting production Plant Utilities & Support Systems Strong understanding of plant utility systems and their impact on production, including: Dust collection systems (baghouses, fans, ducting, filtration) Wastewater treatment and filtration systems Compressed air systems and distribution Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues that impact environmental systems and uptime Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to identify and explain the use of special measuring devices; Use table weights and measurements; ability to use formulas to solve basic problems, including volume, circumference, right triangles using Pythagorean theorem. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to enter time and data into a computer system using basic computer knowledge.
