27 hourly Summary The Water Maintenance Technician I performs semi-skilled to skilled work supporting the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of municipal water distribution systems. This entry-level position is designed for individuals seeking hands-on experience in water utility operations. Work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Water Foreman. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are representative of the work performed in this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Perform monthly water shut-offs. Assist with or perform water meter installations, replacements, and maintenance. Assist with or perform system pressure checks, including the detection and repair of water leaks. Assist with or perform the annual fire hydrant flushing program, including related maintenance and repairs. Assist with or perform valve exercising activities and associated repairs. Assist the Streets Division with snow removal operations during the winter season. Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment in the performance of assigned duties. Perform routine pre
  • and post-operation safety inspections; conduct minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment; and maintain accurate inspection and maintenance records.
Enter, update, and complete work orders in the Town's work order management system. Accurately enter and interpret data within asset management systems, including processing service orders and utility billing requests. Respond to customer inquiries and complaints as directed by the Water Foreman, maintaining professionalism and effective communication. Communicate and collaborate effectively with Town staff and the public in a respectful and constructive manner. Promote a culture of safety by adhering to all Town and Department safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Perform duties requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including work in confined spaces requiring ventilation to mitigate exposure to hazardous gases or fumes. Participate in the set-up and tear-down of Town events and festivals as assigned. Work a rotating on-call schedule, providing after-hours, weekend, and holiday support as needed. May be required to work overtime, varied shifts, weekends, and during emergency situations.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required Experience working in a water maintenance position supporting external customers is preferred An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Licenses/Certifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license, obtain a Class B CDL within one (1) year of employment, and maintain a safe driving record throughout employment Must possess or be able to obtain a Flagger certification within three (3) months of employment Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Confined Space certification within one (1) year of employment Must obtain and maintain a CCWP Class 1 Distribution Certification within one (1) year of employment Must obtain and maintain a CSU Pesticide Technician Certificate within one (1) year of employment
Physical Activities:
The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here represent those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is regularly performed outdoors and occasionally indoors, with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures and all-weather conditions. Work is performed year-round, with regular exposure to loud noise, heavy traffic, and hazardous situations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, though it can increase at times.
Body Movement:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, bend, stoop, or kneel. On rare occasions, the employee may be required to climb, crawl, and balance. The employee must be physically able to operate various motor vehicles. Employees must frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Vision:
Employees must be able to consistently see with near and far acuity, depth perception, color vision, and field vision.
Hearing:
Employees must have the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds (e.g., machinery, telephones, alarms); communicate clearly and effectively; understand and be understood; and be able to consistently engage in ordinary conversations.
