General Handyman / Make-Ready Technician Job Description The General Handyman / Make-Ready Technician prepares apartment units for new residents by completing unit turns, performing general maintenance and basic repairs, and ensuring each home is clean, safe, and move-in ready. This role suits someone with entry-level to intermediate maintenance or handyman experience who enjoys working independently, using a variety of trade skills, and taking pride in completing projects from start to finish. Responsibilities Complete apartment unit turns after residents move out, ensuring units are fully prepared for new residents. Perform basic plumbing repairs, including fixing leaky faucets, toilets, and garbage disposals. Troubleshoot and repair common household appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, ice makers, and dishwashers. Conduct minor electrical work, including replacing or repairing light fixtures, outlets, and switches. Patch, repair, and prepare walls for painting and finishing to maintain a clean and attractive appearance. Complete basic carpentry tasks, including repairing or adjusting doors, cabinets, and trim. Replace or repair fixtures, hardware, and flooring components as needed to meet property standards. Follow a unit make-ready checklist to ensure all tasks meet established quality and safety standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in and around the units being serviced. Communicate clearly with property staff regarding unit status, needed materials, and any issues that may affect completion. Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete daily maintenance and repair tasks. Follow instructions, maintenance checklists, and property procedures to complete work efficiently and accurately. Essential Skills General maintenance knowledge across basic plumbing and basic electrical systems. Basic appliance troubleshooting and repair skills for common household appliances. Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively. Experience with drywall patching, wall repair, and surface preparation. Ability to perform painting and finishing work to a neat and consistent standard. Capability to follow written and verbal instructions, maintenance checklists, and property procedures. Strong general labor skills, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials and equipment. Attention to detail and commitment to meeting quality and safety standards. Reliability and a hands-on approach to completing maintenance and repair tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Entry-level to intermediate maintenance or handyman experience in residential or similar settings. Comfort working independently while managing multiple tasks and unit turn timelines. Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving basic maintenance issues. Work Environment This role is based on-site at an apartment community, working inside and around residential units that are being prepared for new residents. You will typically work during regular daytime hours, with schedules aligned to unit turn timelines and property needs. The environment requires adherence to safety practices and maintaining clean, orderly work areas. Attire should be practical and appropriate for maintenance work, with clothing and footwear suitable for using tools, handling materials, and working in occupied and unoccupied residential spaces. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Melbourne, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.
