Job Description

Job Title:
Maintenance Technician (3rd Shift) Job Description This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment used in a manufacturing environment, with a strong emphasis on preventative maintenance, equipment inspection, and troubleshooting. You will ensure that mechanical and electrical systems operate safely and efficiently, support production reliability, and contribute to continuous improvement within a family-oriented company. Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Inspect equipment regularly to identify potential issues and address them before they impact production. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to diagnose and resolve equipment problems. Install, modify, and fabricate machinery and related components as needed to support production requirements. Repair and maintain electrical systems, including 3-phase, single-phase, and DC systems, in accordance with safety standards. Maintain and repair mechanical systems, including pneumatic and hydraulic components, electrical motors with gearing and belt systems. Use PLC troubleshooting techniques to identify and resolve control system issues. Apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures consistently to ensure a safe working environment during maintenance activities. Document maintenance activities, repairs, and modifications accurately to support equipment history and reliability. Collaborate with production and other team members to prioritize work, minimize disruptions, and support efficient operations. Train and adapt to different shifts as required, including initial training on 1st shift before moving to 3rd shift. Essential Skills 2-3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong knowledge and consistent application of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. Hands-on experience with electrical systems, including 3-phase, single-phase, and DC. Experience working with mechanical systems, including pneumatic and hydraulic components. Ability to maintain and repair electrical motors with gearing and belt systems. Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues on production equipment. Basic PLC troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve control-related problems. Experience performing preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment. Ability to install, modify, and fabricate machine components as needed. Strong safety awareness and commitment to following established procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience in a smaller, family-owned manufacturing environment is a plus. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative maintenance team. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to equipment reliability. Willingness to work 3rd shift and complete training on 1st shift. Good communication skills to coordinate with production and other departments. Why Work Here? The position is on 3rd shift, from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am, with initial training on 1st shift (5:00 am to 1:00 pm) for approximately one month. A shift differential is provided when working on 3rd shift. The environment involves working around manufacturing equipment and using standard maintenance tools and technologies, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, as well as basic PLC troubleshooting. The dress code includes steel toe boots, jeans or work pants with no holes, and a t-shirt. Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection is provided to support a safe workplace. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00/hr.
