Village of Fox Lake Employment Opportunity Local Water and Sewer Utility Maintenance I Job ID Code #26-06 Starting Salary Range/Benefits Package/FLSA Status $25.13 per hour/Comprehensive benefits package/Full-time, Non-exempt position.
BACKGROUND
The Village of Fox Lake (population 10,978) is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 20 miles west of Waukegan, Illinois. Fox Lake is located in Lake and McHenry counties. The Village is located on the South Shore of Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O'Lakes system. The Village of Fox Lake has a total area of 9.942 square miles of which around 20% is water. The Village offers a vibrant lakeside community with thriving local businesses, recreational amenities, and a focus on sustainable growth. The Village of Fox Lake is seeking interested applicants for the position of Utility Maintenance I in our Local Water & Sewer Department.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Utility Maintenance I position assists in the operations and maintenance of the Village's Sewer and Water service, including six ground water wells, four elevated storage tanks, three iron filtration tanks, booster station, and twenty-six sewer lift stations.
SUPERVISION
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Sewer and Water Supervisor. Employee does not exercise any supervisory responsibilities over full-time employees.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. Installs, cleans, reads and repairs or replaces water meters; 2. Checks meters, gauges, pumps and control panels to verify correct operation of equipment and records information; 3. Operates and maintains pumps, control panels, chlorinators and chemical feed pumps. Inspects 4. Checks lift stations for proper operation; 5. Assists with locating and repairing sewer/water mains; 6. Maintains fire hydrants, well house structures and water towers; 7. Cleans and televises sewer mains; 8. Attend safety meetings/training and follows safety precautions according to regulatory standards; 9. Assists in completing daily rounds and chemical testing; 10. Logs completed daily maintenance and work orders. Documents required information; 11. Performs grounds maintenance and maintenance checks of all Department vehicles; 12. Performs related duties and manual labor as assigned; 13. Mows, weeds, and clears water and sewer locations such as well houses and pump stations as needed; 14. Collects and inputs data for the Villages GIS system; 15. Assist in restoration work and the repair/preventative maintenance of water and sewage pumps, motors, generators, and other mechanical/electrical equipment; 16. Completes others tasks assigned by supervisor or the Public Works Director.
QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate must be able to successfully pass the IEPA collection system certification within one year of hire.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A
High School diploma or equivalent. Technical training is desired. Candidates will have a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain such a license within six (6) months of hire. Candidate must be able to successfully pass the IEPA collection system certification within one year of hire. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug/alcohol screen following a conditional offer of employment. A thorough background investigation, including personal and professional references and criminal background will be conducted prior to offer of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A candidate for this position should have thorough knowledge of the following: Ø Computers and electronic data processing; Ø Department operations, policies, and procedures.
Skill in:
Ø Operation of maintenance tools and equipment used by the position; Ø Communication, customer service and organization; Ø Proficient in computer software programs and office applications, including Word, Outlook and Excel.
And ability to:
Ø Make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; Ø Compute volume, flow, detentions, flow, velocities, loading, fates, percentages and ratios; Ø Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, Village maps and procedure manuals; Ø Prepare accurate reports and correspondence; Ø Interact tactfully with the public and co-workers; Ø Work weekends and holidays, be on-call and respond to calls during non-working hours.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat, noise and vibration. The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment. An individual in this position is frequently required to walk, stand and communicate in both oral and written form. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met any an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

This position interacts with residents on a minimal basis. This position regularly interacts with other Village employees.
