Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician performs mechanical and electrical repairs on high-speed corrugating and converting machinery, including printing presses, die cutters, flexo gluers, and packaging equipment. This role focuses on troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and general building upkeep in a large, modern manufacturing facility, using blueprints, diagrams, and schematics to identify and resolve issues efficiently. Responsibilities Perform mechanical and electrical repairs on high-speed corrugating machinery, including printing presses, die cutting equipment, flexogluing systems, and packaging machinery. Troubleshoot equipment issues using blueprints, diagrams, and electrical schematics to identify root causes and implement effective solutions. Carry out preventative maintenance on machinery, including oiling, lubricating, and greasing parts to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Use hand and power tools, including voltmeters and other electrical testing tools, to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical components. Maintain and repair motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and related systems on manufacturing equipment. Support general building maintenance tasks as needed to keep the facility safe, functional, and efficient. Work with high-speed printing and converting equipment, such as Gopfert or Evolve printing systems, ensuring optimal performance and quality. Document maintenance activities and communicate equipment status and repair needs to appropriate team members. Support production operations by responding promptly to maintenance requests and working to reduce unplanned downtime. Participate in weekend and overtime work as required to support production schedules and maintenance projects. Essential Skills 3+ years of entry-level automotive experience (such as lube technician or similar), or completion of a relevant trade school program, or experience as a set-up operator who has performed light maintenance. Ability to perform mechanical and electrical maintenance on manufacturing equipment. Proficiency in troubleshooting to root cause using blueprints, diagrams, and schematics. Experience working with motors, pneumatics, and hydraulic systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics. Skilled in using hand and power tools, including voltmeters and other electrical testing instruments. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Willingness and ability to work weekend shifts and overtime as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Approximately 5 years of mechanical and electrical maintenance experience on manufacturing equipment is preferred. Trade schooling or technical education in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance is preferred. Experience with PLC-based equipment and troubleshooting is an advantage. Experience working with printing presses or corrugating/converting machinery is beneficial. Comfort working on weekend shifts. Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Why Work Here? The facility is not temperature controlled, so conditions will vary with the seasons. The maintenance team is expected to work overtime. Current openings are on second shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elgin, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.
