Floor Job Description Overview Schedule:
Full Time Evening Shift (3pm-11pm)

Public Safety Primary Responsibilities:
Specializes in the maintenance, appearance, and safety of floor surfaces throughout a facility (or facilities). Performs ad hoc, scheduled and project-based floor care duties typically using advanced equipment and floor care techniques. Partners with clinical and facilities teams to minimize disruption, ensure proper signage and safety protocols, and contribute to a clean, welcoming, and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Operates specialized floor care equipment, including auto-scrubbers, high-speed burnishers, buffers, and carpet extractors. Performs stripping, waxing, polishing, and deep cleaning of a variety of flooring types (e.g., VCT, terrazzo, tile, carpet). Executes daily and rotational floor maintenance schedules and contributes to the development of project-based cleaning plans. Coordinates with Environmental Services (EVS) and clinical teams to reduce service disruption and ensure safety during floor care activities. Supports equipment maintenance, conducts basic floor repairs, and promptly reports floor conditions requiring advanced repair or attention. Ensures all work follows safety, signage, and infection prevention protocols. Assists with the setup of safety zones and communicates work area impacts to relevant departments. Collaborates with EVS team members to align work schedules and prevent overlap or service delays.
Successful candidate skillset:

Requirements:
No previous experience is required. If no experience then must pass competency within 2 months of hire date. Requires an Indiana drivers license and proof of insurance. Requires the ability to pass a floor care competency assessment. Must be able to use floor care equipment, including but not limited to: auto-scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, and carpet extractors. Must be able to wear protective equipment and clothing in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory requirements. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, reach, bend, squat, climb ladders, and lift or carry 50 lbs. or more.
Preferred:
High School Diploma/GED or equivalent years of experience is preferred. Floor care experience is preferred. 2-3 years of experience preferred.
Benchmarks:
3 months
  • Master use of floor equipment. 6 months
  • Complete project schedules. 12 months
  • Demonstrate ability self-assign projects.
