Job Description
Position Summary:
The Facilities Maintenance Technician supports safe, reliable, and compliant hospital operations by performing moderately complex preventive maintenance (PM), troubleshooting, and repairs across multiple facilities crafts. The role contributes to survey readiness through utility system checks, life-safety compliance, and water-management activities. Technicians use the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to document work, maintain accurate records, and communicate effectively with clinical and operational partners. In addition, the position provides mentorship and task-level guidance to Apprentices, fostering skill development and consistency in facilities operations.Qualifications:
Required:
Three (3) years of facilities maintenance or trades experience; healthcare preferred. Demonstrated competency in at least two (2) crafts (e.g., HVAC and plumbing). Ability to read and interpret prints/schematics and follow written procedures. Proficient in CMMS use with accurate documentation practices. Current EPA 608 Type I/II certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months. ASHE Health Care Physical Environment Worker (PEW) or Health Care Construction (HCC) certificate within six (6) months of hire. Lockout/tagout (LOTO) qualification; compliance with hot-work permit requirements per policy.Preferred:
Experience with hospital life-safety systems (e.g., fire alarm/pump, smoke/fire dampers). Exposure to water-management program tasks/documentation (ASHRAE 188/CDC). Familiarity with medical gas systems;ASSE 6040
within twelve (12) months preferred.Essential Job Functions:
In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements. Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective repairs on HVAC, plumbing, and basic electrical distribution (≤ 480V) systems, including pumps, valves, motors, and controls. Troubleshoot moderately complex equipment issues, identify root causes, and restore safe operation. Execute life-safety corrective actions and document PM and inspection results to support survey readiness. Conduct water-management monitoring tasks, including temperature checks, flushing, and biocide control documentation. Read and interpret blueprints and schematics; maintain updated as-built field notes. Prioritize work orders, plan tasks, and maintain accurate CMMS data for parts and labor. Communicate outage impacts and coordinate with clinical partners to minimize service disruption. Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours issues as required. Mentor and provide task-level guidance to Apprentices. The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts. On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs.
