Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician ensures reliable operation of approximately 150 production machines in a clean food manufacturing environment. This role focuses on mechanical maintenance with a strong emphasis on hydraulics, pneumatics, and motor replacement, while also supporting daily maintenance calls and a structured preventive maintenance program. The position offers training and development opportunities for candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and consistent attendance. Responsibilities Maintain and repair approximately 150 production machines to minimize downtime and support continuous manufacturing operations. Perform mechanical troubleshooting on production equipment to identify root causes of issues and implement effective repairs. Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including identifying and fixing oil leaks and changing O-rings in hydraulic circuits. Troubleshoot and service pneumatic systems to ensure consistent and safe machine performance. Replace and swap out motors as needed to restore equipment to proper operating condition. Respond to daily maintenance calls from production and address equipment issues in a timely and efficient manner. Execute preventive maintenance (PM) tasks according to the established PM program to extend equipment life and prevent unplanned breakdowns. Work with electrical controls, primarily 24-volt systems and up to 480 volts, to support equipment operation and troubleshooting within defined safety parameters. Use technical documentation, such as schematics when available, to guide troubleshooting and repair activities. Collaborate with a team of maintenance technicians across shifts to share information, coordinate repairs, and support smooth shift handoffs. Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment, including hair nets, safety glasses, and hearing protection. Maintain a clean and organized work area and contribute to the overall cleanliness of the production environment. Document maintenance work performed, including repairs and preventive maintenance tasks, in accordance with site procedures. Communicate clearly with production staff and other team members about equipment status, repair timelines, and any follow-up actions required. Essential Skills Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in mechanical troubleshooting. Practical experience working with hydraulic systems, including diagnosing leaks and replacing components such as O-rings. Experience working with pneumatic systems in a production or industrial environment. Ability to replace and swap out motors safely and correctly. Comfort working with electrical systems up to 480 volts, with frequent work on 24-volt controls. Ability to perform preventive maintenance tasks on production machinery. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve equipment issues efficiently. Reliability in attendance and willingness to work assigned 2nd or 3rd shift hours. Ability to work effectively as part of a small maintenance team across multiple shifts. Commitment to following safety protocols and using required personal protective equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a plastics manufacturing environment is a plus. Familiarity with reading and interpreting electrical or mechanical schematics is beneficial. Experience with plastic processing equipment or related machinery is an advantage. Openness to additional training, including electrical coursework and skills development. Previous experience in a food manufacturing or similarly regulated clean production environment is helpful. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a very clean food manufacturing facility that produces plastic components for packaging and related applications. The maintenance team consists of nine technicians, with three technicians assigned to each shift. This position is available on either 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.) or 3rd shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday). The work involves supporting a large number of production machines, primarily using 24-volt controls with systems up to 480 volts. All required tools are provided by the facility. The environment requires the use of personal protective equipment, including hair nets, safety glasses, and hearing protection. Steel-toe footwear is not required. The facility emphasizes cleanliness, safety, and adherence to food manufacturing standards while maintaining a collaborative team atmosphere across shifts.
