Job Description

The purpose of this classification is to perform complex technical duties in all trade areas to assist in the maintenance and upkeep of all City buildings and facilities. This position is subject to 24-hour call. Performs complex technical duties in all trade areas to assist in the maintenance and upkeep of all City buildings and facilities; responds to work orders to discuss project work and time frame for completion. Completes complex installation, repair and maintenance tasks on HVAC, plumbing, building automation controls, and electrical systems, assists with carpentry work and performs related tasks as assigned; troubleshoots and determines diagnosis for operational problems. Performs routine inspections and maintenance on mechanical equipment. Conducts training and planning for mechanical support staff. Performs welding to repair structural parts and equipment. Participates in various phases of construction and renovation projects. Performs data entry to input necessary records of maintenance reports, inventory and maintenance schedules; prepares paperwork and documentation as required. Operates a wide variety of tools and equipment to include power tools, hand tools, chillers, boilers, air handlers, pumps, forklift, other lifts and related tools. High School diploma or GED, with vocational or technical school training in electrical, HVAC, plumbing and related trades; supplemented by five (5) years of experience in general facility maintenance work performing advanced repair and maintenance tasks; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for the job. Requires specialized certifications as deemed necessary. Must be certified to handle Freon within sixty (60) days of hire. Must possess a valid driver's license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
