Maintenance Technician

$26.00 - $36.00/hr JOB SUMMARY and
KEY OBJECTIVES
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving processing and packaging equipment, with emphasis on steam-jacketed equipment, closed cooking systems, and thermal processing equipment. This role supports uptime, food safety compliance, and preventive maintenance programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Maintenance Technician must be able to perform the following key responsibilities, including but not limited to: Equipment Maintenance & Repair
  • Maintain and troubleshoot: o Steam-jacketed and closed cooking systems o Heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and steam systems o Vacuum sealers, depositors, conveyors, and packaging lines o Scales and labeling equipment o Pneumatic and electrical control systems (motors, VFDs, sensors) o CIP systems and sanitary food processing equipment Preventative Maintenance (PM) Develop and execute PM schedules (CMMS preferred) Track equipment history, failures, and recurring issues Ensure compliance with food safety (HACCP/GMP) requirements Troubleshooting & Triage Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and basic controls issues Respond to breakdowns quickly to minimize downtime Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions Utilities & Systems Support steam systems (boilers, piping, condensate return—depending on site scope) Understand temperature/pressure controls and safety systems Documentation & Compliance Maintain maintenance logs and PM records Ensure compliance with OSHA and food safety standards Assist with audits (USDA/FDA if applicable)
Physical Demands/Conditions Requirements:
Environment :
  • Food manufacturing facility producing gelatin and/or pectin-based gummies
  • Work performed in production kitchens, quality areas, and warehouse-adjacent spaces
  • Exposure to food ingredients, cleaning chemicals, and manufacturing equipment
  • Temperature and humidity may vary depending on production area
  • Requires adherence to all food safety, sanitation, and PPE requirements
Physical Demands :
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 60 pounds
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of materials and equipment
  • Manual dexterity required for inspections, sampling, labeling, and documentation
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
Equipment Used :
  • Standard mechanical and industrial maintenance tools (wrenches, torque tools, pipe tools)
  • Electrical diagnostic tools (multimeter, clamp meter, insulation tester)
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic diagnostic equipment
  • Precision measurement and calibration tools (temperature, pressure, scales)
  • Sanitary maintenance tools and food-grade materials
  • CMMS and basic PLC diagnostic interfaces
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) including hairnets, gloves, and safety footwear Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skill and ability.

Pay:
