Job Description

Commitment to Citizen Service Service encompasses all aspects of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indian's governmental operations. Every employee shares the responsibility to provide exemplary service, dignity, and respect to all Tribal Citizens, the Tribal Council, and staff members. To this end, all employees have an obligation to identify and report any service problems, issues, or concerns and through designated channels, initiate, recommend, and actively participate in solutions.
Position Summary:
Performs skilled and semi-skilled labor related to the maintenance, repair, and modification of buildings and facilities. This includes general electrical, plumbing, and construction maintenance activities to keep the premises/facilities of Tribal properties fully functional, structurally sound, watertight, and insulated. Responsible for ensuring that the buildings and facilities are in optimal working condition and safe for our Tribal Citizens.
Essential Functions:
Perform electrical maintenance as it relates the facilities,equipmentand vehicles. Perform plumbing maintenance, such as repair leaking pipes, sinks, toilets etc. Perform building and wood working maintenance, such as minor facilities repairs, interior exterior painting, staining etc. Perform minor repairs such as fixing loose doorknobs, hinges, ceiling tiles, and light lens covers, etc. Perform metal working tasks as assigned. Work collaboratively with Department teams (both in the Housing and Facilities Department and other Departments) to ensure services are provided and the highest levels of service are maintained. Occasional use of heavy equipmentandtrailers;i.e.loaders, excavator, bobcats,toolcats, and 12 plus foot trailers. Follow OSHA Safety standards and follow Personal Protective Equipment, PPE. Maintain clean working areas throughout the Tribal properties. Ability to handle and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Collaborate with the Facilities Supervisor to prioritize tasks and ensure efficient workflow. Obtain approval from Facilities Supervisor before incurring any costs, such aspurchasingitems or materials.
Non-Essential Functions:
Perform other related functions as assigned.
Equipment:
VariousHeavy and Maintenance machines used, such as skid steers, front end loaders, high-lifts, stump grinders, mowers, tractors,snowplowsand blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, edgers, shears, pruners, hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders, and more.
Position Requirements:
Level I High School Diploma or GED required. Self-motivated able to perform with minimal supervision required. Good communication skills Minimum one (1) year of experience in electrical, plumbing, building maintenance and repair required. Experience in maintaining a wide variety of light gasoline and diesel equipment preferred. At least one (1) year of experience in HVAC preferred. Must have a valid driver's license and meet insurance requirements to utilize Pokagon Band vehicles. Level II All prior requirements Minimum of (3) years experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and/or general maintenance repair required. Level III All prior requirements Minimum of five (5) years experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and/or general maintenance and repair required.

Pokagon Band Preference Code applies.
Physical Requirements:
Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and crawl. Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds or more.
Work Environment:
Generally outdoor construction side environment; exposed to outside weather conditions during all four seasons. Local travel is necessary, so the ability to travel as needed is required. Interaction with Tribal members, elders, and the general public.
