Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician will perform mechanical troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on plant equipment including motors, conveyors, gears, hydraulics, and heavy equipment. This role supports safe, efficient production by diagnosing issues, performing both reactive and preventive maintenance, and ensuring equipment operates reliably in an industrial environment. Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues on hydraulic systems, conveyors, augers, and related production equipment. Perform reactive and preventive maintenance on plant machinery, including motors, gears, conveyors, and industrial systems. Conduct basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs, including work on PLC-controlled equipment and three-phase electrical systems as needed. Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as forklifts, yard tractors, bobcats, aerial lifts, cranes, skid steers, and wheel loaders. Read and interpret parts diagrams and technical documentation to assemble and disassemble miscellaneous equipment correctly. Perform basic welding and fabrication work using SMAW, GMAW, plasma torch, and oxy/acetylene cutting tools. Apply a strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyor and auger systems, power tools, overhead cranes, and wheeled vehicle repair and operation. Follow and enforce lockout/tagout (LO/TO) procedures and all plant safety protocols during maintenance activities. Work safely at heights, including being hoisted 30-40 feet in the air on a crane or aerial lift when required. Support installation, adjustment, and alignment of new or repaired equipment to ensure optimal operation. Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other departments to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimize downtime. Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are stored and used safely. Document maintenance activities accurately and communicate equipment status and repair needs to the appropriate personnel. Contribute to a culture of safety, first-time quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in all maintenance work. Essential Skills Hands-on experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical issues on hydraulic systems, conveyors, and augers. Practical experience working with cranes and forklifts, including safe operation and basic maintenance. Knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance, such as construction equipment and diesel engines. Basic understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyor and auger systems, power tools, overhead cranes, welding and fabrication, SMAW, GMAW, plasma torch, oxy/acetylene cutting, and wheeled vehicle repair and operation. Ability to operate heavy equipment including forklifts, bobcats, aerial lifts, cranes, yard tractors, skid steers, and wheel loaders. Ability to troubleshoot minor electrical issues and perform basic electrical repairs. Ability to read and understand parts diagrams and mechanical drawings to assemble and disassemble equipment. Strong safety-conscious mindset and commitment to following all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LO/TO). Willingness and ability to work at heights, including being hoisted 30-40 feet in the air on a crane or aerial lift. Commitment to safety, customer satisfaction, first-time quality, and efficiency. Availability to work approximately 50 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with flexibility for occasional schedule changes. Additional Skills & Qualifications Electrical troubleshooting experience, including working with PLC controls and three-phase systems (approximately 20% of the role). Experience with aerial lifts and elevated work platforms. Experience with small engine component repair. Experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance environments. Experience with preventive maintenance programs and maintenance repair best practices. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, hands-on environment where everyone contributes. Comfort working in a dirty, non-climate-controlled industrial setting. Use of steel-toed boots and personal protective equipment as required by plant safety standards. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based primarily indoors in an industrial plant environment that is dirty and not climate controlled. The setting involves working around heavy equipment, conveyors, hydraulics, and various industrial systems, with frequent use of power tools, welding and cutting equipment, forklifts, yard tractors, aerial lifts, cranes, skid steers, and wheel loaders. Safety is a core priority, with extensive safety protections and procedures already installed and enforced throughout the facility, including lockout/tagout practices and required PPE. All necessary personal protective equipment is provided except for steel-toed boots, which must be supplied by the employee from the start. The schedule is generally first shift, Monday through Friday, with current operations often running four 10-hour days (for example, 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), and candidates should be prepared to work roughly 50 hours per week. Saturday work is very rare, and there is no Sunday work. The culture is highly team-oriented, where everyone is expected to contribute, support one another, and step in wherever needed to keep operations running safely and efficiently. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Trenton, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $66560.00/yr.
