Job Title:
Yard Laborer Job Description The Yard Laborer supports the production and logistics of large precast concrete forms used for structures such as parking garages, grocery stores, and apartment buildings. This role focuses on organizing and tracking inventory in the yard, preparing forms and finished products for shipping, and performing a variety of hands-on general labor tasks to keep operations running safely and efficiently. Responsibilities Maintain accurate and organized inventory in the yard, ensuring products are stored in the correct locations for efficient pickup and delivery. Use yard diagrams to identify and locate specific products and storage areas. Operate forklifts and skid steers to safely move concrete panels, forms, and materials throughout the yard. Place finished precast products into racks for storage and prepare them for shipment to construction sites. Perform general labor tasks such as sweeping, cleaning work areas, and assisting with getting the yard ready for increased production. Clean and prep wooden and steel forms (molds) for the next pour, including scraping, oiling, and ensuring forms are ready for use. Wash exposed aggregate panels and full beds to meet quality standards. Ensure correct dunnage placement for finished products in the yard to protect panels and maintain product integrity. Scrape clean side forms and chamfer, and apply oil in designated yard areas as needed. Correctly set clamps and hook-ups to concrete panels to allow for safe lifting and movement. Assist with dry finishing concrete and preparing finished precast products for shipment. Follow all work instructions and procedures to clean, maintain, and care for equipment and tools. Work as part of a team to complete daily production and yard tasks, supporting coworkers as needed. Adhere to all safety policies and practices, using required safety equipment and maintaining a safe work area. Demonstrate dedication to safety, customer satisfaction, first-time quality, and operational efficiency. Uphold the continuous improvement mindset of making processes and performance better every day. Essential Skills Hands-on mechanical aptitude with the ability to work confidently with power tools and hand tools. Previous labor experience in tasks such as clean-up, material handling, or general construction-type work. Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure for layout, cutting, and verification of dimensions. Basic Excel skills to assist with tracking and logistics of products in the yard. Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts and skid steers safely in a busy yard environment. Capacity to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, bending, and being on your feet for most of the day. Comfort working in a dirty, hot, and physically active construction-type environment. Reliability in transportation to and from work to meet variable start and end times based on production needs. Flexibility with work hours, understanding that end times can vary depending on when concrete pours and related tasks are completed. Strong commitment to safety procedures and willingness to follow all safety guidelines. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including reading yard diagrams and basic documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Professional construction experience in areas such as carpentry, concrete, demolition, framing, roofing, renovation, or similar trades. Experience with carpentry tasks, including light carpentry and building pallets. Familiarity with concrete work, rebar handling, caulking, painting, and basic finishing tasks. Background in general construction support areas such as plumbing assistance, insulation, demolition, and flooring work. Experience using a variety of tools, including tape measures, power tools, hand tools, wrenches, screw guns, saws, and cutting tools. Experience with rigging, loading, and logistics in a yard or construction environment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints is preferred. Experience in production or manufacturing environments, particularly those involving large or heavy products. Strong teamwork orientation and willingness to help with any task needed to complete the job and support the crew. Why Work Here? You join a highly team-oriented culture where everyone, from leadership to front-line staff, contributes on the floor to get the job done. The schedule offers year-round, steady work without travel, allowing you to build a stable routine. The company emphasizes safety with robust protections and procedures already in place, so you can focus on your work with confidence. You work in an environment that values continuous improvement, encouraging you to learn, grow, and make each day better than the last. The organization also respects personal time by never scheduling work on Sundays. Work Environment The work environment is a highly active, physical, and fast-paced precast concrete facility and yard. Yard Laborers spend most of their time working both indoors and outdoors in a construction-type setting, frequently exposed to the elements and varying weather conditions. The environment can be dirty, hot, and sweaty, and involves constant movement throughout the day. You work around large precast concrete panels and forms, which require careful handling and attention to safety. The role involves regular use of forklifts, skid steers, power tools, hand tools, and other construction-related equipment. Safety is a top priority, with established safety protections and procedures in place throughout the plant and yard. The culture is strongly team-oriented, with everyone expected to pitch in, help others, and participate in daily clean-up. Work is generally structured around one main shift, with some crews operating in the early morning hours (including a 2:00 a.m. crew) depending on production needs. Typical start times range from around 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., and end times vary based on when concrete pours and related tasks are completed, as employees stay until pours are properly finished to ensure quality.
